“CAMINO DE SANTIAGO-MY JOURNEY MY WAY
IN 29 DAYS

April 17-May 15, 2025”

by: Lorie Veiner-Clause

It all started 6 years ago in 2019 while reading a Facebook Post.

My eyes were intrigued viewing a captivating photo with written captions.
A lady smiling carrying a backpack. Walking her feet on a brown, dirt
trail path, along “The Way” with various rocks. Rolling green hills in the
background. Peek-a-boo blue and gray skies with puffy clouds surfacing
through the photo. This appeared to be in the middle of nowhere.

Several Facebook posts continued from this lady for at least a month.

Intrigued with this foreign post, I reached out to that person privately on
Facebook.

She informed me to join Camino de Santiago Facebook Groups. “What is
that. I asked”?

She said, “Join the group and read”.

I did just that. I remained confused and had many questions. I had no idea
what ‘Camino de Santiago’ was.

Could ‘Camino de Santiago’ be a religious event? A certain group of people to participate? Is this something
I could participate in?

What is ‘Camino de Santiago’?

I joined several different ‘Camino de Santiago’ Facebook groups as there were many. My obsession with
reading about this subject continued for 5 years.

The clarity of the Pilgrim journey increased my curiosity.

However, there were several ‘Camino de Santiago’ groups. Different subjects. Various Caminos. Numerous
posts. Comments. Criticism. Judgement. And very helpful responses. The curiosity was a daily obsession!

Did my Camino start when I reached out to that lady?

Did my Camino start from the first time I was learning about being a Pilgrim?

Did my Camino start when a Pilgrim sent me the book, “A Pilgrim’s Guide to the Camino de Santiago”?

Did my Camino start when I made my airplane reservation on January 7, 2025? That day the Eaton Fire
broke out as flames were approaching my house. Soon the electricity went out. Rapid winds with gusts were
howling at astronomical speeds.

Did my Camino start when I took 2 trains
from Paris and Bayonne, France, arriving at
Saint-Jean-Pied-de Port, France?

Did my Camino start as I was walking to the
Pilgrim’s Office upon arriving in Saint-Jean-
Pied-de Port?

Did my Camino start as I walked my first
steps leaving Saint-Jean-Pied-de Port to
the beginning of the French Camino de
Santiago?

When did my Camino start?

Buen Camino

*This is the first of a series on Sierra Madre resident Lorie-Veiner-Clause incredibly courageous journey.
Follow her as she recalls her 'Camino' each week right here in the Mountain Views News. By the way, if you
aren't familiar with the Camino Santiago, you will be!
