THE SUN IS SETTING ON THE TEMPORARY LIBRARY SATURDAY, JANUARY 24, 2026 VOLUME 20 NO. 4VOLUME 20 NO. 4 Sierra Madre Public Library prepares forclosure, move, and exciting return home It’s almost time to say goodbye to our “home away from home!” The Sierra Madre Public Library’s temporary location at 350 W Sierra Madre Blvd. will close to the public beginning February 1, 2026, as we prepare to move back to our permanent home at 440 W Sierra Madre Blvd. After two years of serving the communityfrom our temporary space, we’re thrilled to be heading back to where it all began—this time with some big improvements in store. A short closure… for a big comebackAs the Library moves and gets settled, both the temporary and permanent locations will be closed to the public through May31, 2026. During this time, staff will be hard at work merging the temporary collection with the larger Library collection that has been in long-term storage. This major project has been made possible thanks to $10,669,210 in state and federal grant funding and $1,800,000 from CityReserves, which will help bring the original 1955 Library building up to modern standards and expand services for years to come. Improvements include: • Seismic and ADA upgrades • Asbestos abatement • New HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems • Improved green space • A 5,000 square foot expansion One last week to stock up! Before we close, we invite the community to stop by the temporary Library during our final week of operation to pick up books, movies, music, audiobooks—and anything else you’ll want to enjoy during the closure. Consider it your official “Library haul” week! Your Library card still works—online! Even while our doors are closed, the Libraryis still open 24/7 online.
