“OH CHRISTMAS TREE, OH CHRISTMAS TREE,
HOW LOVELY WERE THY BRANCHES!”
The Christmas Tree’s a memory,
Along with this past year.
That noble Noble’s at the curb,
A trail of needles in its wake,
What a lot of vacuuming that mess is gonna take!
The day it came to live with us,
We marveled at its beauty.
Hanging lights and ornaments,
Was such a pleasant duty.
It shouldered all that glittery load,
And held its branches high.
And now its out there in the yard,
Stripped of all its treasures
Putting all that stuff away is not a major pleasure!
Tree saw a lot of Christmas joy,
Family, friends and neighbors.
A dinner, wine, pleasant laughter,
We’ll remember long hereafter.
We opened all the presents,
Then threw the wrap away.
Now we’re looking forward,
To what the New Year brings,
Peace and love and happiness, only joyful things.
Let’s make a resolution,
To keep Christmas all year through.
A smile and friendly greeting will be my gift to you.
Let’s keep our inner Grinch locked up,
That bad boy’s had his day!
A New Year’s waiting in the wings,
What wondrous adventures will 2014 bring??
“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves.
The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”

Sierra Madre Police Blotter
Monday December 23, 2013
At 3:15am a unit was on patrol in the area of Sierra Madre Boulevard and Perkins Drive when the
officer observed a male and female standing on the sidewalk. As the female appeared to be upset, the
officer stopped to investigate. It was determined that they been involved in an argument over a period
of a few hours, starting at their residence. The argument turned physical when the male pinned her
to the floor by grabbing her arms and applying his body weight. After he let her up she walked out of
the residence followed by the male. The argument continued until the police arrived. The male (23
years of age) was arrested for Domestic Battery.
At 3pm, an officer was patrolling the area behind the Recreation Center when he observed a vehicle
backed into a space near the cardboard collection site. Two males began acting suspiciously as the
police car approached and both were wearing rubber gloves. As the investigation unfolded, officers
observed narcotic paraphernalia in plain sight on the vehicle seats and could detect the odor of burnt
marijuana coming from the interior. One party did not possess identification but was in possession of
papers and identification belonging to others. Further search of the vehicle revealed several financial
documents under various names. A female approached the scene demanding that the officers stop
searching her vehicle. She insisted that all the contents belong to her. Further examination indicated
that the documents were being utilized for identity theft purposes. All individuals were arrested
for Identity Theft and methamphetamine was also found to be in possession of the female. It was
determined that the documents had been taken from dumpsters at various locations throughout the
region and the financial data was used to make small purchases.
At 11:30 pm, officers responded to the report of a woman screaming in the 200 block of West
Grandview Avenue. The investigation determined that a woman had been out walking when
approached by two males. One suspect grabbed her purse from her shoulder and pushed her against
a wall. Both then ran toward to a small dark colored sedan parked a short distance away. The victim
described the suspects as two male blacks in their early 20’s wearing dark colored hoodies. The victim
recalled that their vehicle had one headlight that was inoperable.
Three days later at 7:45pm, a SMPD unit observed a vehicle speeding on Sierra Madre Boulevard
and initiated a traffic stop. The officer determined that the driver was driving on a suspended license
and was also an active member of the DU ROC Crips, a Duarte street gang. The officer detained all
occupants of the vehicle and observed that a passenger resembled a described individual from the
Grandview robbery. The victim of that robbery responded to the detention location and positively
identified the passenger as one of the suspects who had robbed her. This individual (a 17 year old
male) was subsequently arrested for robbery. It was determined that the two other occupants of the
vehicle individual were not involved in the robbery and were released after being identified.
Wednesday December 25, 2013
Between the hours of midnight and 9am, unknown suspects entered a residence in the 00 block
of Suffolk Avenue and removed a laptop computer. The resident was away for the holiday. Both
a front and rear window had been tampered with and it was determined that the suspect(s) used
one or both windows to enter and exit the residence. No other property was taken and no other
areas of the residence appeared disturbed. Detectives are acting upon evidence recovered during the
investigation.
