“BEST OF SHOW” AT TASTE OF ARCADIA
Top Winners in Judges & People’s Choice categories of Culinary Contest
For the period of Sunday, October 4th, through
Saturday, October 10th, the Police Department
responded to 1,166 calls for service of which 144
required formal investigations. The following is a
summary report of the major incidents handled by
the Department during this period.
Sunday, October 4:
At approximately 12:34 p.m., an officer conducted
an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of
Colorado Boulevard and Joyce Avenue for having
expired registration. A records check of the vehicle
revealed the registration had expired; however, the
vehicle displayed a 2016 registration sticker. The
driver, a 51-year-old male from Pasadena, was cited
and released in the field.
At approximately 2:09 p.m., officers conducted a
traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1500 block of Clark
Street for being parked in front of a fire hydrant.
A records check of the license plate revealed the
registration was expired and the registered owner
had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Upon
contacting the driver, the officer discovered his
license was suspended and he was a sex registrant.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, the
officers located methamphetamine and drug
paraphernalia. The 54-year-old male from Garden
Grove was arrested and transported to the Arcadia
City Jail. The suspect’s vehicle was towed.
Monday, October 5:
At about 7:05 a.m., an officer responded to the
600 block of Fairview Avenue regarding a vehicle
burglary report. The officer discovered an unknown
suspect smashed the front passenger window,
rummaged through the vehicle, and fled empty
handed. No suspects were seen and no witnesses
were located.
At approximately 4:50 p.m., an officer responded to
the front counter of the Arcadia Police Department
regarding a fraud report. The victim discovered a
fraudulent withdrawal from her account when her
card was declined. The victim was in possession of
her debit card when the crime occurred and does
not know how the suspect obtained her personal
information.
Tuesday, October 6:
Around 12:47 p.m., an officer responded to a
residence in the 500 block of East Lemon Avenue
regarding a package theft report. The witness stated
a Hispanic female stole her neighbor’s package from
the front porch. The suspect fled in an awaiting grey
Honda Civic. The investigation is ongoing.
Both the driver and the suspect are described
as Hispanic females between the ages of 20 and
25-years-old.
Just after 8:25 p.m., an officer responded to
Nordstrom at the Westfield Shopping Town, 400
South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a suspect in
custody for shoplifting. Loss prevention personnel
witnessed the 53-year-old female from Monrovia
conceal numerous items of merchandise in her
purse and exit the store without making payment.
The suspect also had an outstanding misdemeanor
warrant. She was arrested and transported to the
Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Wednesday, October 7:
Shortly after 1:56 p.m., an officer responded to
the Los Angeles County Department of Mental
Health, 330 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a
threat report. The officer discovered the suspect, a
37-year-old female from Covina, became agitated
during a counseling session and threatened to kill
staff members. On October 8th, Detectives located
the suspect, arrested her, and transported her to the
Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Around 9:57 p.m., an officer responded to CVS
Pharmacy, 1401 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding
a battery in progress. An investigation revealed
a physical altercation ensued between a husband
and wife resulting in both parties hitting each
other. Neither party requested medical attention.
The 48-year-old male from Arcadia was arrested
and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for
booking.
Thursday, October 8:
At about 4:04 p.m., an officer responded to the 400
block of West Lemon Avenue regarding a stolen
vehicle report. The officer determined an unknown
suspect stole the victim’s 2007 Ford Expedition
while it was parked in front of his residence. The
vehicle was located on October 12th by the Los
Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Temple Station. No
suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
At approximately 10:07 p.m., an officer responded
to an apartment complex in the 1000 block of West
Duarte Road regarding a mail theft report. A
witness stated a male suspect was seen tampering
with the mail boxes. The witness confronted the
suspect who fled to an awaiting vehicle.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his
40’s, heavy set, with a bald head. The driver was a
Hispanic female. The suspects fled in a gray, four-
door vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
Friday, October 9:
At about 11:16 a.m., an officer responded to the
front counter of the Arcadia Police Department
regarding an identity theft report. The victim
received suspicious mail including a new debit card,
PIN number, and a credit application rejection letter
for an account she did not open. An investigation
revealed an unknown suspect opened numerous
bank accounts in the name of the victim and her
sister. The victim does not know how the suspect
obtained her personal information.
At approximately 10:44 p.m., an officer conducted
a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of
Peck Road and Killian Street for following too
closely. Upon contacting the driver, the officer
discovered the 39-year-old male from Monrovia
had never been issued a license. He was cited and
released in the field. His vehicle was left legally
parked.
Saturday, October 10:
Just after 12:34 a.m., an officer responded to a
traffic collision in the area of Santa Anita Avenue
and Genoa Street. Upon contacting the driver, the
officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting
from the driver’s breath and noticed he was
bleeding from the mouth. Through a series of tests,
the officer determined the 23-year-old male from
Pico Rivera was driving under the influence of an
alcoholic beverage with a blood alcohol content of
.13% when he collided into two parked cars. The
suspect refused medical attention. He was arrested
and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
At approximately 6:02 p.m., an officer responded
to Radio Shack, 1435 South Baldwin Avenue,
regarding a grand theft report. An investigation
revealed an unknown male forcefully removed two
iPhones from their displays and fled westbound on
foot.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his
20’s, short dark hair, clean shaven, with a thin build.
The investigation is ongoing.
For the second year in a row Villa Catrina
Mexican Restaurant won the Best in Show award
from expert judges at Taste of Arcadia 2015. And
Embassy Suites Arcadia won Best in Show in the
first-ever People’s Choice voting at the event.
There were 10 different winners overall in five
categories rated by judges and the same five
categories for which ballots were provided to
nearly 1,400 attendees.

Alexander Reyes - founder/owner Saute Culinary
Academy; and Chef Scott Storms, co-owner
of Sauté Culinary Academy.

CITY OF ARCADIA RECREATION AND PARKS
MASTER PLAN RESIDENT SURVEY NOW ON-LINE!
City of Arcadia Recreation and Community Services Department seeks resident input on park facilities
and recreation program as part of its community outreach effort for a new recreation and parks master
plan. The intent of the master plan is to develop a tool which can provide direction and planning for
an achievable, fiscally responsible and environmentally sustainable recreation and parks system in
Arcadia. The final document will be used to direct future park and facility improvements as well as
meet future trends and community needs for Arcadia’s recreation and leisure services programs and
activities over the next 20 years.
One of the ways the city is assessing community needs, suggestions, and priorities is through a
community survey. The survey is available both online and in paper form. Residents can pick up the
paper survey form at the Arcadia Community Center Recreation Office or go online tob complete and
submit the survey at: www.surveymonkey.com/r/ArcadiaParksRecNeeds.
You can also access the survey link through the city’s web site at http://www.ci.arcadia.ca.us by
clicking on Recreation & Community Services under the “City Departments” heading on the
homepage. Residents can also check the master plan status and get information on how to submit
ideas and comments. The survey is still available and should be completed as soon as possible. For

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS
Families are invited to come celebrate at the Gilb
Museum of Arcadia Heritage with Calaveras (sugar
skulls), make Calacas (skeletons that know how to
party), champurrado (thickened hot chocolate), and
pan dulce (sweet bread). It will be the party of the

a.m. until noon.

NIGHT SKY EXPLORATION
Come out and explore the night sky with
Astronomer Carson Brucker on Thursday,
October 22, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Brucker will
provide an informational slideshow presentation
and answer children’s astronomical curiosities.
The presentation will also include a hands-
on experience for children to see and touch an
actual meteorite. Program attendees will then
venture outdoors and view the night sky using
highpowered professional telescopes. Don’t miss
this out of the world experience.
The Arcadia Public Library is located at 20 W.
Duarte Rd., Arcadia. Come in for the experience
and leave with a great book! The Library is open
Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. until 9:00
p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. until 6:00

CROWN CITY STRING QUARTET TO
OFFER MOZART, BORODIN
In the 15th season of “Music in Sacred Spaces” at
Church of the Good Shepherd, the Crown City
String Quartet will perform in the Chapel at 3 p.m.,
Sun., Oct. 18. Featured artists are Kevin Kumar,
violin; Isabelle Senger, violin; Carrie Holzman-
Little, viola; and Dane Little, cello. Their program
features the Mozart “Dissonance” String Quartet
K.465 and the Borodin String Quartet No. 2.
Requested donations of $15 (students with I.D.,
$10) will be taken at the door. Church of the Good

CHURCH OFFERS “TRUNK OR TREAT”
HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION
At its annual “Trunk or Treat” event on Halloween
evening, Church of the Good Shepherd will welcome
little ghosts, goblins, princesses, pirates and other
costumed children seeking Halloween treats. Lots
of cars with fantastic seasonally decorated trunks
will line up in the church’s parking lot Friday, Oct.
31, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and offer tasty goodies to
the kids. Community residents can enjoy this safe
and fun celebration of Halloween in their family-
friendly costumes. Church of the Good Shepherd,
