THE JOY OF YOGA
?????
LET’S FIGHT
FATIGUE!
More and more
Americans complain
that they suffer some
sort of fatigue. It may
range from needing
a nap mid-day to
symptoms more severe
like chronic fatigue.
Fatigue is frustrating
and can be debilitating.
For some people they
have to push through
every day. For these
same people, at the
end of each long and
exhausting day, sleep is
yet another challenge.
Oddly, for many people
the more exhausted
they are during the day,
the worse sleep at night. After a restless night of
tossing and turning, the cycle begins again as the
sun arises.
Feeling great and energetic requires reversing the
things that contributed to the problem in the first
place. Fatigue is something that gradually goes
away so you have to be committed. Supporting
your body with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables
which will improve your body's immune system
will greatly aid in restoring normal energy levels.
Here are 5 more things that you can do to get
started on a path of eliminating fatigue.
1. Cut back on caffeine.
Adrenaline is what gives athletes that winning
burst of energy and also gives a person the strength
to lift a car that has rolled onto a child. Adrenaline
is the source of our "fight-or-flight" response,
which enables us to run for our lives if the need
arises. Caffeine stimulates your adrenal glands to
produce this fight or flight response. When the
over stimulation of your adrenals wears off you feel
fatigue, and possibly irritability and headaches. If
you are constantly using caffeine you are keeping
your body in "flight-or-flight" mode.
2. Try to relax.
Make your world as small and uncomplicated
as possible by reducing your everyday needs.
Start by filtering news and information. If you
cannot do anything about it and it stresses you,
you do not need to be concerned with it. Learn
to practice relaxation techniques whenever you
can. Meditation, even for a couple of minutes can
relieve stress as can a few slow deep breaths.
3. Generate feel good hormones through
movement.
Endorphins are the "feel good" chemicals induced
by exercise. Of course, you can be so fatigued that
doing anything seems impossible which is a real
“Catch 22” because moving is needed to eliminate
fatigue. We need to be physically tired as well as
mentally or emotionally. A simple walk can be
the first step. Once you have established a routine,
begin to walk farther or slightly faster. Yoga is
another great option to get your body moving
again and to relieve fatigue.
4. Try to develop good sleep habits.
Our bodies need a mini tune-up daily. Sleep,
especially deep sleep, is when our bodies do this
repair and maintenance. There are many things
you can do to promote a good night’s sleep. Once
you have done 1, 2 and 3 above to improve your
odds of sleeping well then try to; establish a
schedule, don’t eat too close to bedtime, and keep
your bedroom as dark as possible.
5. Embrace whole food or herbal therapy
instead of drug therapy.
If you are taking any type of drug therapy, be
aware that it may actually be contributing to
fatigue. Nutritional deficiencies can make it
difficult to get your energy levels back even
when you are doing all of the above. There are
whole food and herbal supplements that feed
the body what it needs to overcome fatigue
without side effects. Herbs can help relieve
the symptom of fatigue directly by enhancing
immune function, balancing hormones, and
stimulating the healing systems of the body.
Feeling good every day does require a healthy
lifestyle and some effort but it well worth it!
GET UNSTUCK
As you may
know, a regular
yoga practice is
wonderful for the body. Our joints stay mobile,
muscles strong, circulation flowing and really all
systems of the body function better. Our energetic
condition and mental state improves with regular
practice too. There’s a general state of happiness,
wellness, and natural inspiration.
It’s when life happens and stress creeps back in
that things can fall out of balance. Anxiety builds
and things feel stagnant and unclear. Uncertainty
can settle in and cause a build up in our body.
It is during stressful times we can rely on our
practice to enliven us. Sometimes we almost need
the opposite of what we think we need. There’s the
tendency to want a yoga practice that’s relaxing
and somewhat effortless when we’re tired and
lacking enthusiasm. Yet, we may need a practice
that’s full of energy, stamina, and challenge. It’s
in those tired, stuck, dull periods that we need to
look ahead to re-create forward motion. There’s
a few ways to create this shift for ourselves.
First, a challenging asana practice paired with
invigorating pranayama will get things moving
immediately. A hike in nature (one that requires
some stamina) or a walk early in the morning can
help wake the body and mind up. Last, we can
always look to food and digestion. Ask yourself:
What am I eating? Is it too much, not enough?
Am I sitting down to eat my meals?
Don’t forget, our yoga practice changes our energy
and in turn, changes how we think and feel. It’s an
instant attitude changer.
Enjoy your week! See you on the mat.

FAMILY MATTERS By Marc Garlett
7 STEPS FOR
EFFECTIVELY
MANAGING AN
INHERITANCE
Research shows that a majority of baby boomers
will receive an inheritance at some time during
the lives, with the average inheritance estimated
at $65,000. If you are the beneficiary of a family
inheritance, here are 7 steps you can take to be sure
you manage it wisely:
1. Re-examine your financial goals. Look at short-
term gains vs. long-term benefits. Determine the
direction you want to go and then invest your
inheritance accordingly.
2. Review your estate plan. If you inherit a
significant amount of money, you should review
your estate plan to determine what new strategies
can be put into place to protect your increased
assets. If you inherit a valuable collection of art
or jewelry, you’ll want to look into other ways to
protect that, too.
3. Get rid of debt. If your inheritance is significant
enough to allow you to pay off debt – especially
credit card debt or loans with high rates –consider
paying it off entirely. You can evaluate whether
or not this is a good idea by estimating what you
currently pay in interest and then determine
if investing your windfall will provide a better
return.
4. Have an emergency stash. If you do not already
have at least six months’ worth of living expenses
in an emergency fund, it’s a good idea to get that
shored up now.
5. Take your time. Explore your options and
consider the best use of your inheritance before
making any major moves. Inheritances are
separate marital property in California, so if you
are headed for divorce, it may be more prudent to
just put the cash in an interest-bearing account
until the dust settles.
6. Consult a professional. A financial planner and
an estate planner will help you navigate your new
wealth and save money.
7. Give yourself a treat. Put aside a small amount
by for something special for yourself but don’t go
overboard.
Perhaps you already know all of this. Perhaps
you don’t. But if you’d like more information on
inheritance and estate planning issues, call our
office to schedule an appointment or to RSVP for
our next FREE public seminars (at The Lodge in
Sierra Madre: Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, 6:00 – 8:00

PEACHJAR: A GREAT WAY TO REACH PARENTS
If you want to get into the inbox of every parent
in your school district, peachjar is the tool to use.
Peachjar sends school-approved eflyers directly
to parents email. It delivers directly to all parents
whose email address in on file with the district
that is part of the Peachjar network of schools.
They charge a service fee and they have a few rules.
You need to be a non-profit (Enrichment or
Community Organization) and your flyer will
go through an approval process with the school
district.
If you are a business that is not eligible to use
Peachjar because you don’t have non-profit status,
you might consider partnering and collaborating
with a non-profit in your community. For
example…With the holidays coming up, you
might consider hosting a toy drive/open house
at your place of business and partner with a non-
profit that serves children. If you create a win-win,
your collaboration could result in more donations
for the non-profit and more exposure for your
business.
