BEST MARGARITA
Blended or on the rocks? I have been
told that you more bang for your buck
if it’s on the rocks, but I like mine lightly
blended. One thing I’ve discovered is
that no matter if you’re at a chain like
El Torito or your neighborhood spot, all
bartenders have their own methods for
making margaritas. I thought Charlie
from the now–defunct La Fiesta Grande
made the best margarita around, and I
found out that they pre-made the mix, what!!!!!!! It was good. So, here is my list, and a few
notes along the way
To call a margarita “The Best Margarita” is subjective - I get that, so before we get into my list
here are a few rules that I followed: #1 The margarita has to be served in a margarita glass – not a
beer cup, not a tumbler, but an actual margarita glass. #2 no extra shots, no doctoring - I judged
these strictly on asking for a blended double margarita. #3 the margarita is available to anyone
that just happens to walk into this bar or restaurant.
Hall Of Fame
#1 Los Gringos Armando is the man, and it’s consistent even when he is not at the helm
#2Maxx’s Duarte they have it down, and again it’s consistent
#3 Margaritas, with the name of Margarita it better be good!!
All Star
#4 Morralito’s Margaritas bring out the karaoke singer in me!!
#5 Amigos Probably the strongest on the list, please call Uber!!
#6 El Cholo fine selection of tequilas, you have to ask for the margarita glass
Triple Hitters
#7 Mijares Local favorite, uses Sauza in the house margarita
#8 Pacos when they are hot they are hot, when they are not… well you know the rest
#9 La Fiesta South Pasadena New blender new margarita, just OK
Pinch Hitters
#10 Peppers Beto does it right!! But he’s not there all the time
#11 Trejo’s Gimmick restaurant, nothing special
#12 Casa Del Rey Locals swear by the food, as my friend Mike Bingley said, it isn’t my cup of tea
#13 El Portal Again, read the rules; sorry I know this an unpopular vote
#14 Cabrera’s Depends on the bartender; this place used to be top 5, lemonade anyone?
Of the Rest
Mercado A giant ice cube takes up most of the glass
Maesto Read the option above
El Torito order a side shot during happy hour, well worth it
Once again, these are standard margaritas that you’d order not knowing the bartender. Sure,
each restaurant mentioned could make you a “Special” margarita, but I am sticking to my list
and the order. Gracias!
