ST. RITA SCHOOL’S MOCK TRIAL TEAM VISITS 
THE LOCAL COURTHOUSE

St. Rita School’s Mock Trial team took a small break from their summer vacation to learn about the 
law!

On June 12, 2023, the Mock Trial team observed criminal court proceedings at the Alhambra

Courthouse. Students sat in the jury box and learned the procedures of court cases, as well as

more about the role of the Judge, Attorney and Jury. This is an experience they will never forget and 
our students are looking forward to applying these skills once the school year begins!

Mock Trial is a competition in which students simulate a real trial. This involves analyzing

evidence and using it to build an argument, public speaking, developing useful knowledge about the 
law, and critical thinking.

The Constitutional Rights Foundation (CRF) of Los Angeles is the sponsor of the upcoming

2023-2024 school year mock trial competition, which had over 50 schools last year in the middle 
school competition.

Mock Trial is offered to St. Rita students in grades 6th-8th and is moderated by Daniel Lopez, a retired 
Judge of the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The Mock Trial team is scheduled to compete 
in October/November 2023 against other middle schools in presenting the prosecution and the defense 
involving a felony criminal case.

A MESSAGE FROM PUSD

We have been notified that at least one individual 
in our school community has recently tested positive 
for COVID-19. The positive individual was 
at school within the past 48 hours during their 
infectious period and your child/ren might have 
been exposed. 

Public Health officials recommend exposed 
individuals:

• Administer an at-home test between 3 - 
5 days after the exposure date or if they start to 
experience symptoms, and 

• Wear a face mask for at least 10 days 

PUSD provides free test kits and masks. If your 
student needs one, they can pick one up from our 
Health Office during school hours. Test kits and 
masks are also available at the District office:
