From The Desk of SMPD Chief Gus Barrientos SIERRA MADRE POLICE DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES COMMUNITY POLICE ACADEMY TO STRENGTHEN TRUST AND TRANSPARENCY The Sierra Madre Police Department is proud to introduce our Community Police Academy, a program designed to provide residents with a comprehensive, behind-the-scenes look at how modern law enforcement operates. As Chief of Police, I firmly believe that trust, transparency, and communication are the foundation of effective policing. The Community Police Academy reflects our commitment to strengthening those principles by opening our doors to the community we serve. This program is more than a series of presentations; it is an opportunity for meaningful en-gagement. Participants will gain firsthand insight into the responsibilities, decision-making, and challenges our officers face each day. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experiences, our personnel will guide attendees through key are-as of law enforcement, including dispatch operations, patrol functions, investigations, use of force, and other critical aspects of policing. What makes this program unique is the direct interaction with the men and women of the Sierra Madre Police Department. Our officers, supervisors, and professional staff will share their expertise, answer questions, and provide context to the complex situations they encounter in the field. This level of access is essential in supporting a deeper understand-ing of not only what we do, but why we do it, and what we can do. The Community Police Academy also reflects our broader policing philosophy, one rooted in partnership. Public safety is a shared responsibility, and informed, engaged residents are a critical component of a safe and resilient community. By building stronger relationships and increasing awareness, we aim to enhance collaboration and mutual respect between our department and the community. I encourage residents to take advantage of this opportunity to learn, ask questions, and en-gage with our team. Programs like this are vital to maintaining the high level of service and accountability that our community expects and deserves.
