Sierra Madre Police Blotter

During the week of Sunday, June 6th, to Saturday June 12th, the Sierra Madre Police Department responded 
to approximately 272 calls for service.

Tuesday, June 8th:

4:02 PM – Residential Burglary, 1100 block East Grandview Ave. A male suspect opened the unlocked 
front door and stepped into the entryway of the house. The resident immediately confronted the 
suspect who fled eastbound on Grandview Ave. The man was described as a male white in his late 30s, 
husky build, 5’10”, light brown Mohawk-style hair cut, wearing a light brown jacket and white light 
brown pants. No loss was reported by the homeowner.

Arcadia Police Blotter

For the period of Sunday, June 6, through Saturday, June 12, the Police Department responded to 971 
calls for service of which 103 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the 
major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, June 6:

1. Shortly before 4:00 p.m., loss prevention personnel from Macy’s advised that they had detained 
two women for theft. The women were seen trying to cut the security lanyard from a purse while in a 
fitting room. They were unsuccessful, so they returned the purse to a rack and purchased another purse 
in order to obtain a shopping bag. The women then took several clothing items and concealed them in 
the shopping bag and left the store without making payment. Private persons’ arrests were made, and 
the Vietnamese women, ages 41 and 64, were taken into custody for stealing over $283 in merchandise 
and conspiracy to commit crime.

2. A residential burglary occurred in the 400 block of West Duarte between September 9 and June 
6. Unknown suspect(s) cut the locking mechanism to a storage unit located in the carport area and stole 
military equipment.

Monday, June 7:

3. Between 11:30 a.m. and 11:50 a.m., an auto burglary occurred in the 1600 block of Wilson. 
Unknown suspect(s) broke a car window and stole a purse.

4. A non-injury three-car traffic collision occurred at Santa Anita and Live Oak around 1:07 p.m. 
Two cars were stopped for a red traffic signal when a driver failed to stop in time and crashed into one 
of the stopped vehicles. The force of the impact caused the second vehicle to rear-end another car.

Tuesday, June 8:

5. A traffic stop was initiated at Camino Real and Tenth around 5:15 p.m. for an expired 
registration. A 28-year-old male Caucasian driver was arrested and later cited and released for expired 
registration, no proof of insurance, open container of alcohol in vehicle. A 28-year-old male African-
American passenger had a no bail warrant for being a parolee at large and was taken into custody.

6. Between June 5 and June 8, a residential burglary occurred in the 1000 block of West Duarte. 
Unknown suspect(s) entered the home by removing brackets from an air conditioning unit. The 
suspect(s) then ransacked rooms and stole cash and jewelry.

Wednesday, June 9:

7. At approximately 1:00 a.m., patrol officers noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in the 900 
block of South Baldwin. A consent search of the vehicle was conducted which revealed a pair of brass 
knuckles. A 26-year old male Caucasian was arrested for possession of a deadly weapon.

8. At approximately 8:45 p.m., police responded to the 900 block of South Baldwin in regards 
to a vehicle burglary. Unknown suspect(s) broke the passenger window to gain entrance. A laptop 
computer, purse, misc. credit cards and a large amount of cash were stolen.

Thursday, June 10:

9. At 9:05 a.m., units were dispatched to the 1000 block of Sunset regarding a disgruntled male 
Caucasian, 64 years of age, for making terrorist threats towards his ex-landlord for being evicted. He 
was subsequently placed under arrest.

10. Between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m, officers responded to First Avenue Middle 
School in reference to a male Asian student, 12 years of age, brandishing a pocket knife. He was 
subsequently placed under arrest.

Friday, June 11:

11. At 8:24 a.m., officers responded to a domestic violence call in the 900 block of Arcadia 
Avenue. Upon further investigation, a female African-American, 33 years of age, was arrested for 
inflicting corporal injury on spouse/cohabitant.

12. At approximately 8:00 p.m., a male Caucasian, 19 years of age, was placed under private 
person’s arrest for petty theft. He admitted he stole a pair of jeans from Zumiez, located at The 
Westfield Shopping Mall. The merchandise was recovered.

Saturday, June 12:

13. At 3:00 a.m., officers observed a disturbance to the rear of Denny’s, 7 East Huntington. 
Upon further inspection, a male Caucasian, 41 years of age, was found to exhibit signs of alcohol 
intoxication. A record’s check revealed several outstanding warrants. He was subsequently placed 
under arrest.

14. Between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., at The Westfield Shopping Mall, unknown 
suspect(s) scratched and damaged victim’s vehicle with an unknown sharp tool and caused excessive 
damage. The suspect(s) then fled the location in an unknown direction. 

RESIDENTS CAN BECOME WATER-WISER AT 
PWP’S H20 ACADEMY

Pasadena Water and Power experts will teach residents how to outsmart the current water 
shortage at a free workshop Saturday, June 12, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Salvation Army Pasadena 
Tabernacle, 960 E. Walnut St.

The three-hour seminar will cover:

* Top 10 ways to save the most water and money indoors and out

* How to conduct a home water audit and compare yours to average and efficient homes

* How much water is right for your landscape

* How to keep your landscape healthy through the hot summer and change of seasons

* How to check for water leaks and what to do if you find one

* How to read your water bill and meter

* How to test your soil

* What alternatives to traditional landscaping work best for Pasadena’s climate

* What efficient irrigation devices like smart controllers and drip irrigation can do for you.

Each PWP customer who attends the workshop will receive a water-saver kit valued at $40, 
and PWP water customers will also have a chance to win a “smart” irrigation controller, with 
installation, worth $650.

Monrovia Police Blotter

During the last seven day period, the Police Department handled 662 service events, resulting in 131 
investigations. Following are the last week's highlighted issues and events:

Driving Under the Influence / Traffic Collision - Suspect Arrested

On June 5 at 5:59 p.m., police received a call of a possible drunk driver in the area of Huntington 
and Magnolia and then a second call of a vehicle involved in a hit and run collision. The description 
of the vehicle was the same in both calls. Officers arrived, located the vehicle, and stopped it in the 
300 block of North Myrtle. During the investigation, it was determined the driver was under the 
influence. The driver was arrested.

Driving Under the Influence - Suspect Arrested

On June 6 at 2:30 a.m., an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle in front of him swerving on the roadway. 
He stopped the vehicle in the area of Cherry and California and contacted the driver. During the 
investigation, it was determined the driver was under the influence and he was arrested.

Bear Incident

On June 5, a bear had been seen by Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputies in the City of Duarte, below 
Duarte Road at approximately 9 p.m. in the evening. Deputies attempted to encourage the bear 
north toward the foothills with the assistance of a helicopter, but the bear fled and concealed it self 
in the shrubbery. He was later seen again in the area of Buena Vista and the 210 Freeway. The bear 
eventually went onto the Freeway and California Highway Patrol closed down the Freeway. The bear 
left the Freeway and hid again, out of sight. On the morning of June 6 at approximately 5:37 a.m., 
the same bear was sighted in the City of Monrovia and officers were dispatched to assist Sheriff's 
deputies and the Department of Fish and Game. The bear was now in the bushes of a car dealership 
at Central and Mountain. Officers responded and assisted Fish and Game in locating the bear. The 
bear was eventually tranquilized and taken back into the mountains by Fish and Game.

Grand Theft Auto Recovery - Suspects Arrested

On June 6 at 10:55 p.m., an officer saw a motorist run a stop sign northbound on Primrose at 
Huntington. The officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle and it yielded in the 200 block of West 
Olive. The driver immediately exited the vehicle and fled. The officer broadcast the suspect's location 
and detained the female passenger who had remained inside the vehicle. A computer check of the 
vehicle's license plate revealed it was reported stolen from the Temple City area. A containment of 
the area was established with the assistance of Arcadia patrol officers, the Foothill Air Support Team 
helicopter, and canine units from Irwindale and El Monte. The suspect was ultimately located hiding 
inside a shed in a backyard of a residence in the 200 block of West Olive. The suspect sustained a 
dog bite to his left leg and was taken to a hospital, where he was medically treated and released. 
The suspect was brought to Monrovia Police Department for booking. The suspect is a registered 
sex offender and had an outstanding parole hold. The suspect and his female passenger had shaved 
vehicle keys in their possession and were additionally charged for possession of burglary tools. The 
female passenger was cited and released.
