1630 AM

Free on-air publicity
for local events

Sierra Madre’s new community radio station is now accepting
scripts for Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about
community events. PSAs will be broadcast on the air at no
charge. The station operates 24/7 and can be heard at 1630 on
the AM dial.

Any local non-profit or non-commercial organization can have
their event information broadcast to the public on Sierra Madre
Community Information Radio. This new radio station covers
the city of Sierra Madre, plus surrounding areas of Pasadena,
Arcadia, and Monrovia.

In a nutshell, your event must:

• Benefit a non-commercial or non-profit entity

• Be open to the public

• Be of general interest to local citizens

Just
write a Public Service Announcement that describes your
event and e-mail it to radio@cityofsierramadre.com.

two free concerts, Nov. 20 & 21, at 2pm both days. The first
concert is at the Pasadena Christian Church, 789 N. Altadena

DECO BLITZ!!

Saturday, December 18 and

Sunday, December 19 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Free lunch will be provided!

“Sueños de California” has the potential to be one of Sierra
Madre’s most beautiful floats ever. Because this year’s entry is so
large, we are hoping to complete at least 35% of the decoration
before Christmas. To reach this target we need your help!

We’d love to have you join us any time during the month of December
to help decorate, but December 18 and 19 are days when
we especially need all hands on deck.

Join us for a Deco Blitz! Help decorate the spires of the mission
in oatmeal, cinnamon and sesame seed. Create bark for palm
trees and bougainvillea vines. Experienced decorators might
detail monarch butterfly wings with intricate patterns of orange
lentil, rice and strawflower.

Work is available for all experience levels, however we mainly
need volunteers aged 14 and up. All minors must have a release
form signed by a parent prior to working. Release forms are
available at the Float Barn. There’s no need to call ahead of time
unless you are bringing a large group (more than 6 people).

Float decorating is a lot of fun, but it can be messy so wear your
grubby clothes. Free lunch will be provided.

See you at the Blitz! Float Barn 587 E. Sierra Madre Blvd.

"THERE OUGHT TO BE A LAW" Contest

Are you a small business owner who is tired of bureaucratic red
tape? Do you have a common sense idea to cut waste from state
government? Have you thought of a sensible solution to a growing
problem in your community?

Some of the best legislative ideas come from those who have
personally experienced a problem and see a need for reform. So,
if you have an idea for a new law that you’d like me to consider, or
if you believe a certain law is problematic and should be repealed,
I hope you will participate in my 2011 "There Ought To Be A Law"
contest.

I will choose one idea to be included in my 2011 legislative
package. The person who submits the winning idea will be
invited to join me for lunch and will receive a California State
flag that has been flown over the Capitol.

To enter this year’s contest, please visit my website, at www.senate.
ca.gov/huff and fill out the short questionnaire describing your
idea. You can submit the form online or mail it to my Capitol
office by December 3, 2010, and the winner will be announced
in January.

If you have questions, please contact my Capitol office staff at
(916) 651-4029.

THE PERFECT GIFT: A TREE

Help Heal the Angeles Forest this Holiday Season

Dedicate a Tree

LOS ANGELES - TreePeople announces the return of its popular
Holiday Tree Dedication program. Through TreePeople's Tree
Dedication program, holiday shoppers can give a gift to heal the
fire-damaged Angeles National Forest. For each $25 tax-deductible
donation, a tree will be dedicated in honor of those on holiday gift
lists, including family, friends, co-workers and clients. A beautiful,
personalized holiday card will be sent to the recipient announcing
the gift. For a $100 contribution, TreePeople will send an inscribed
certificate to the recipient, announcing that a grove of five trees
has been dedicated. Certificates may be framed with a handsome
recycled wood frame for an additional $30.

With financial support from Holiday Tree Dedications, the
nonprofit TreePeople works with land management agencies to
restore woodlands burned in the 2009 Station Fire. Thousands of
trees are planted each year through this impactful program.

A tree is always the right size, never goes out of style, doesn’t
need wrapping, spares shoppers a trip to the mall and curbs the
greenhouse effect. According to the International Society of
Arboriculture, a single mature tree can absorb the amount of
carbon produced by a car driven 26,000 miles.

One ‘click’ handles all your shopping needs. To dedicate a tree
online visit www.treepeople.org or call (818) 753-TREE or (818)
753-8733.
