SUMMER FUN

9

BACK TO
SCHOOL AND

BEING BULLIED

Question: Elsje, I’ve been dreading
this day since the first day of summer
vacation. I don’t want to go back
to school and back to being bullied.
What do I do? Maria

Answer: Maria, Don’t let bullies stop
you from your future. Plan on having
a great year at school! This is the day
you are no longer a victim. Stand tall.
At the first incidence, notify your parents
and counselor at school. If you
get no relief, it is time to call the police.
Do not hesitate. You have a right
to a safe education.

Try to avoid the bullies by always being
in groups and well lit areas. Plan
your day and destinations. If you are
having trouble getting from class to
class or from home to school, let your
school counselor know the first time
it happens. Repeat EVERY time this
happens. This is not an easy position
for you to be in, but it is a step you can
and must take. You have the ability to
take their power away.

Find a group of friends to hang out
with. Join a new club or sport. Busy
yourself with your homework and
your dreams. Pick up a new hobby.
Help someone else.

There are so many ways for you to be
productive. This can raise your self-
esteem and give you strength. These
choices will make you happy! Good
luck with school and make it a great
year!

THE NØ BULLYING ZONE

by Elsje

Miss Palmer’s 3rd Grade Class, 31 talented and creative students,
have published a book! It is called, “Miss Palmer’s Third Grade:
Once Upon A Wayside” and it includes the work of each of the students
in her class. We will publish the book in its’ entirety this
summer, with 3-4 stories each week. The stories will not be edited,
well maybe a few spelling corrections. They are all entertaining
and original!

Inspired by the book series they read in class, The Wayside School
Series by Louis Sachar, the children created their own episodes of life
at Wayside. (Hint: Louis Sachar’s Wayside School was supposed to
be 30 classrooms, one story high; but by mistake it was built straight
up 30 stories. That should give you some insight into the kind of
stories you will read from Ms. Palmer’s 3rd Grade Class!)

A teacher for six years, Ms. Palmer has been at Sierra Madre Elementary
for two years. She was born and reared in Sierra Madre,
played on the SM Girls Softball Team and was a Sierra Madre Rose
Princess in 2000.

This is the last of the series of stories that will enlighten, inspire
and keep you laughing all summer long!

CHILLIN’
WITH
DINOSAURS

by Aaden Corona

One Monday afternoon,
Stephen and
Myron excused themselves
to use the restroom.
On their way
there, they noticed
that the custodian’s
closet door was barely
open. They peeked
inside and saw a huge,
shiny, metal machine.
The machine had a big
red button that said,
“Start time travel.”

“What the heck is that?”, asked Myron.

 “I don’t know!”, replied Stephen.

Stephen pushed the red button and said, “Start
time travel?”

Stephen and Myron saw a blue light appear and got
sucked in. They disappeared in a split second. Soon,
they found themselves sitting in the sand. They got
up, dusted themselves off and saw that they were
next to a jungle.

“WAZZ UP!!!”, said a deep, unpleasant voice.

 “What was that?”, asked Stephen.

They turned around and saw a huge, grey, talking
T-Rex.

 “Ahhhh!!!!”, screamed Myron and ran.

“What’s his problem?”, asked the T-Rex.

 “I don’t know...just ignore him.” said Stephen.

“Myron!!! Get over here, the T-Rex is friendly.” said
Stephen.

 “Fine!!”, shouted Myron.

Myron walked toward the dinosaur and said, “This
dinosaur is dumb.”

“You put the D in dumb,” said the T-Rex.

“OOO!!! A pile of sand”, said Myron.

He jumped on it. Then it started to sink into
the ground. The blue appeared again and Stephen
jumped in it and they appeared back in Wayside
School. They returned to class and never spoke to
anyone of their trip. THE END

ERIK OVEN CAN’T TALK!

by Nolan Blakely

One day in Wayside School, Erik Oven was playing
basketball with Erik Fry and Erik Bacon. Three

people wanted to play basketball. Erik Oven said,
“Sure.” The three people lost the game and Erik Fry,
Erik Oven and Erik Bacon won the game.

After the game, Erik Oven was walking. He saw a
purple glowing rock. He picked up that rock and he
tried to say, “Wow, look at this purple glowing rock,”
but all that came out was “abaprieplvima.” The bell

rang and the class ran to Mrs. Jewels on the 30th
story. Todd was scratching his bottom when Mrs.
Jewels said to Erik Oven, “What is 5 x 5?” Erik Oven
said, “Goadocqxzxr.” The class laughed. Mrs. Jewels
said, “correct.” Then someone said, “How are you
doing?” Erik Oven said, “gocdoocsoryorw.” The class
laughed again. Erik Oven ran out of Mrs. Jewel’s
room, went down the stairs and into the basement!

Then he saw Erik Fry in the basement looking for
something. Erik Oven ran to Erik Fry then wrote, “I
can’t talk and what are you looking for?”

Erik Fry said, “I don’t care that you can’t talk and
I’m looking for my lunch bag.”

Erik wrote, “Is that it?”, he pointed to his lunch
bag. Erik Fry said, “Thank you”.

Erik Fry went out of the basement. Then Erik Oven
saw a man. The man said, “I can help you.” Erik Oven
wrote, “I can’t talk and how can you help me?”

The man said, “My name is Limeomlie God and I can
help you so you can talk again.”

Limeomlie God gave Erik Oven a red and blue flower
and said, “Eat this flower.”

Erik Oven ate the flower. Lemeomline God said,
“Can you talk?”

Erik Oven said, “Yes and thank you”, and returned
to class.

Mrs. Jewels said, “Stop talking to yourself” and Mrs.
Jewels wrote Erik Oven’s name on the blackboard.

MRS. ZARVES’ CLASS

by Sameh Duplessis

During the day at Wayside School, Mrs. Jewels
asked her students, “Do you guys have anything to
do?” Paul didn’t have anything to do so he decided to
go to the playground.

Paul asked Allison, Joy and Jason if they wanted to
go outside for a little bit, but he was very quiet so
Mrs. Jewels couldn’t hear him. Then, they all asked
if they could go to the bathroom, but instead they
went outside.

Outside they saw a dog who started chasing them.
They all climbed up the outside of the building and
guess what class they ended up in? The 19th Story!
When they got on the 19th story they were all
worried they would be stuck there forever. They
thought they were going to die because they couldn’t
drink or eat, not even water.

But they didn’t die. The first couple of days were
good but when they heard they weren’t going to have
recess or a break, they decided to leave. They created
an escape plan.

They jumped out of the window, and ran back up
to the 30th story. When they got there Paul said,
“Mrs. Jewels, Mrs. Jewels, we got stuck on the 19th
story.” Everybody laughed and DeeDee asked, “How
can you get stuck on the 19th Story if there isn’t a
19th Story?

“It’s tru,” Paul, Allison, Jay and Jason all said. Calvin
agreed with them because he had gotten stuck
on the 19th Story before. In fact, they had all been
stuck on the 19th Story before. But, for some reason,
nobody remembered.

The next day Paul asked the class why they didn’t
remember.

 Everybody was quiet.
