 The Sierra Madre Public Library will be open to the public on 
Christmas Eve day, Monday, December 24, and New Year’s Eve 
day, Monday, December 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. City 
Hall and the Community Services Office will be open 7:30 
a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

 

The City Hall, the Community Services Office, and the Library 
will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

At approximately 7:10 am, police responded to an injury traffic 
collision investigation regarding a vehicle versus a pedestrian at 
Baldwin Avenue and Kersting Court. The driver of the vehicle 
was traveling southbound on Baldwin Avenue and struck a 
pedestrian who was crossing the street (Baldwin Ave) westbound 
in the crosswalk at Kersting Court. The pedestrian, an elderly 
female, sustained severe injuries. She was transported to a 
local hospital for treatment by Sierra Madre Fire Paramedics. 
The driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in the 
crosswalk and released. 

Friday, December 1, 2012

At approximately 2:12 am, an officer observed a traffic violation 
in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Baldwin Avenue. After 
initiating a traffic stop, the officer determined the driver 
displayed objective symptoms of being intoxicated. The driver 
(a 24-year-old male) failed the Field Sobriety Tests and was 
subsequently arrested for DUI. 

Saturday, December 1, 2012

At approximately 11:53 am, police responded to a hit-and-
run traffic collision investigation involving a vehicle versus 
a pedestrian in the 100 block of West Bonita Avenue. The 
pedestrian, a male juvenile, was riding his skateboard in the 
street westbound on the north shoulder of West Bonita Avenue, 
when he was struck by a vehicle also traveling westbound on 
West Bonita Avenue. The vehicle a black 4-door SUV (unknown 
make or model) continued westbound without stopping then 
made a left turn onto southbound Hermosa Avenue and out 
of view. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries, but was 
transported to a local hospital by Sierra Madre Fire Paramedics 
for treatment and observation.

At approximately 2:06 am, an officer observed a motorist commit 
a traffic violation on Michillinda Avenue south of Orange Grove 
Avenue. After initiating a traffic stop, the 
officer determined the driver displayed 
symptoms of being intoxicated. The driver 
(a 25-year-old male) failed to complete the 
Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently 
arrested for DUI.

SM LIBRARY’S BEST HOLIDAY 
BOOK SALES

With the holidays fast approaching, the Friends of the Sierra 
Madre Library are offering several opportunities for you to 
purchase the best holiday gift of all- books. On Thursday, 
December 6, from 4:00-6:00PM a Friends’ members only book 
sale will be held in the basement of the Sierra Madre Library. 
This event features newer fiction and non-fiction, lots of coffee 
table books, cookbooks, collectibles, DVDs, and audio books as 
well as books for children and teens so you’re sure to be able to 
find something for everyone on your list. Not a member of the 
Friends? There will be an opportunity for you to join that night.

The following weekend, the Friends of the Sierra Madre Library’s 
Best Used Book Sale is being held on Friday, December 7, from 
3:00-7:00PM and Saturday, December 8, from 10:00AM-2:00PM 
in the library basement and on the back parking lot. Open to the 
public, this sale features holiday books, newer fiction (including 
2012 titles), books on crafts and hobbies, sports titles, coffee table 
art and contemporary culture books. These items and many other 
adult fiction and non-fiction books, children’s books, audio books, 
CDs, and DVDs will be available to purchase for your reading and 
listening pleasure. Tables outside the library will feature hardback 
and trade fiction and non-fiction for $1.00 each and paperbacks 
for twenty-five cents each (or five for $1.00). All children’s books 
outside are now only 25 cents. 

These sales offer high quality, slightly used books that are culled 
from our library shelves or donated, books that you’ll be proud 
to place in your own library or to give to friends and family. So 
come early and come often to see what treasures you can find. 
Proceeds from the Members Only and Best Used Book Sales will 
be donated to the Sierra Made Public Library to support program 
and equipment needs. The library is located at 440 W. Sierra 
Madre Blvd. in the city of Sierra Madre and there is parking on 
the street and behind the library.

CORRECTION:

 In last week’s edition of the Mountain Views News, the photo 
that accompanied the story about SMPD Chief Larry Giannone 
incorrectly identified the woman in the picture as his wife. The 
woman was actually Superior Court Judge Geanene Yriarte 

who was administering the Oath of Office.

EMERGENCY RADIO & 

Free on-air publicity for local events

 Sierra Madre’s EMERGENCY radio station is now accepting scripts 
for Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about community events. 
PSAs will be broadcast on the air at no charge. The station operates 
24/7 and can be heard at 1630 on the AM dial.

 Any local non-profit or non-commercial organization can have 
their event information broadcast to the public on Sierra Madre 
Community Information Radio. The station covers the city of Sierra 
Madre, plus surrounding areas of Pasadena, Arcadia, and Monrovia. 

Your event must:

• Benefit a non-commercial or non-profit entity
• Be open to the public
• Be of general interest to local citizens


Just 
write a Public Service Announcement that describes your event 
and e-mail it to radio@cityofsierramadre.com.
