THE WINNERS!

The Scariest Contest was won by Jay Walters, above, was awarded
a special gift from Vroman’s and an additional prize of performing at
The Sierra Madre Playhouse’s Zombie production which was performed
throughout the night.

Sierra Madre’s spookiest night of the year, Halloween, was once again full of fun for young and
old. Thousands of goblins, witches, superheroes, ghosts, fairies and other creatures, some adorable,
others scary, roamed the streets knocking on doors with the mantra, “Trick or Treat”. For
many, the treat was not only the goodies, but the Halloween decorations on homes throughout
the town. Thousands lined Alegria street just to view the most enchanting block of homes that
have become a legend in the San Gabriel Valley.

The festivities began with Trick or Treating at downtown businesses and a Costume Parade
down Sierra Madre Boulevard to Memorial Park. More than 177 children registered for the
parade and contest. The group, which included many costumed parents was lead by the Sierra
Madre Fire Department.

Once there, the costume contest was held with the top three winners in each category being
awarded prizes appropriate for their age group. The youngest group, 0-2 years received gifts
from Carter’s Babies and Kids; the 3-4 year olds received gifts from the Lakeshore Learning
Center. All other winners were awarded gift certificates from Vromans. M.C. for the contest
was Lisa Spagai, who was just as entertaining as the children and their costumes.

The Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce coordinated the downtown Trick or Treating and
the Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club sponsored the Costume Contest. Judges for the event were:

Joe and Jacqui Pergola, Shirley Anhalt, Mayor Nancy Walsh, Kiwanis President Susan Henderson,
Judy Webb-Martin, and Kiwanis High School Key Club member Michael Lee. Membes of
the Kiwanis Builders Service Club from Sierra Madre Middle School assisted with the registration
and other Key Club members assisted city staff with the staging of the contest.
