Sierra Madre Police Blotter


For The Period January 26 through February 2, 2014 

Monday January 27, 2014
At 12:17 pm, resident in the 300 block of E. Grandview was contacted by a Credit Service Company, 
that their identity had been used to obtain credit, which led to an unauthorized charge of $950.00 
dollars. Current investigation has been forwarded to detective bureau. 


Thursday January 30, 2014 
At 1:25 pm, Sierra Madre Police responded to the 300 block of W. Sierra Madre regarding a female 
victim that was sitting in a patio area of a business, where she was threatened with bodily harm, by an 
unknown suspect. Suspect fled north across Sierra Madre Blvd and out of sight. Suspect is described 
as a male Hispanic 25-27 years of age 5’7-5’10 in height. Suspect last seen wearing a dark colored 
baseball cap, dark jacket, dark pants, and brown slippers. 


Friday January 31, 2014 
At 6:34 am, Sierra Madre Police responded to the 00 block of W Sierra Madre to a traffic collision 
involving a single vehicle, which collided into a tree and city bench. Driver complained of chest pains 
prior to the collision and was transported to a local hospital. 


Saturday February 1, 2014 
Between November 18, 2013, and January 29, 2014, in the 600 block of Brookside Lane, Sierra Madre 
Police responded to a Grand Theft. Victim discovered several items missing from their residence, 
which included jewelry, cash, firearms, I pod, camera, and bicycle. Victim advised his residence may 
have been unlocked during that time. Case forwarded to the Detective Bureau. 


Sunday February 2, 2014 
At 5:11 am, in the 400 block of Sturtevant, an officer observed a male adult who asked for directions 
to the city of San Bernardino. Officer noticed subject with several pieces of mail in his hand. Police 
Officer questioned subject, about the mail, the subject admitted to taking the U.S. Mail that did not 
belong to him from a resident’s mailbox. This case submitted to the U.S. Postal Inspector for further 
investigation.

Ok, you can’t let another day go 
by without walking into the Poppy 
Cake Baking Co. which is now 
where Wildflour Bakery used to 
be. Poppy Cake Baking Co. is the 
dream come true of a charming 
young couple, Brittainy and Matt 
Turnquist. Brittainy is a Sierra 
Madrean (her parents live on 
Montecito) and she is a graduate of 
the Culinary Institute of America, 
in New York, where she met her 
husband, Matt. She specialized 
in pastry and he is a savory chef, 
i.e., one who works on the ‘hot 
food’ side of the kitchen. Matt 
is originally from a small town 
outside of Buffalo, New York, 
Jamestown, which is the birthplace 
of Lucille Ball! Brittainy and Matt 
opened Poppy Cake Baking Co. 
just two months ago and are doing 
very well, which is good news!
