LION APPEARS AT CAMINO GROVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
CLASSROOMS IN ARCADIA

Written By Camila Gomez With Contributions by Shriya Velichala and Madison Yang Ms. Simmons’ Class

A Chinese New Year lion, from Ms. Simmons class, appeared in Ms. Brown’s, Mr. Lopez’s, Mr. Rhee’s,
Ms. Fortier’s classes, and the office, on Chinese New Year, January 31.

Three of Ms. Simmons’ students, Shriya V, Camila G, and Madison Y (Camila and Madison in the lion)
went to four classrooms and the office dancing, bowing, and giving each teacher a little Chinese New
Year gift. “I brought this lion while shopping in Chinatown”, Ms. Simmons said, before sending the lion
off to the other classrooms.

While prancing around the
classrooms, students’ eyes glared
at the Chinese lion, with its
beautiful, vibrant, pink, orange,
red, and green colors. While the
students were in Mr. Lopez’s
class, Mr. Lopez asked to try on
the lion head. As he shook his
head wildly, the classroom roared
with laughter. After, Mr. Lopez
exclaimed gleefully, “Gung Hay
Fat Choy!” (This means Happy
Chinese New Year in Cantonese.)
“I have to admit, it was pretty
stuffy in the lion’s head”, commented Camila. “I liked being part of going around as it was a big opportunity”, claimed Shriya, Madison
added, “I think it was a fun, wonderful, experience.” Everyone wants this lion to visit their classes again next year. Do you?

Mr. Lopez tries on lion head
in the spirit of the day.

SCHOOL DIRECTORY
THE REEL DEAL: by Ben Show
LABOR DAY
I had not heard anything about thismovie or even seen a trailer before
seeing the film. With all films, pooradvertisement can be the movie’s
death and, sadly, I feel this way
about this movie. ‘Labor Day’ hadsuch little press but was the best filmI have seen so far this year.

After his parents divorce,
Henry (Gattlin Griffith) lives with
and must take care of his emotionally
scarred mother Adele (KateWinslet). During a routine trip tothe market, they meet the mysterious
and dangerous Frank (Josh
Brolin) who forces them to take himback to their house. As Henry andAdele learn more about Frank, they

become more and more attached to him, and the experiences
they have over Labor Day weekend follows the three of them forthe rest of their lives.

Everything about this movie was wonderful. The screenplay
was smart and well written. The acting was impeccable. Thefilm perfectly blends drama, suspense, and a love story, makingthe two hour runtime fly by. I went into this movie knowingnothing about it and came out of the theater extremely happy.
‘Labor Day’ is the best movie that has come out so far this year.
