1630 AM EMERGENCY RADIO & 

Free on-air publicity for local events

 Sierra Madre’s EMERGENCY radio station is now accepting scripts 
for Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about community events. 
PSAs will be broadcast on the air at no charge. The station operates 
24/7 and can be heard at 1630 on the AM dial.

 Any local non-profit or non-commercial organization can have 
their event information broadcast to the public on Sierra Madre 
Community Information Radio. The station covers the city of Sierra 
Madre, plus surrounding areas of Pasadena, Arcadia, and Monrovia. 

Your event must:

• Benefit a non-commercial or non-profit entity
• Be open to the public
• Be of general interest to local citizens


Just 
write a Public Service Announcement that describes your event 
and e-mail it to radio@cityofsierramadre.com. 


Sierra Madre Police Blotter

For The Period April 20 - 27, 2014

During the week of Sunday April 20th, to Sunday April 27th, the 
Sierra Madre Police Department responded to approximately 273 
calls for service.

Tuesday April 15, 2014 

At 2:06 pm, Sierra Madre Police responded to the 200 block of 
Sturtevant regarding a vehicle into a building. After further 
investigation driver was arrested for driving under the influence 
and transported to a local hospital for injuries. There was no 
damage to the building.

Friday April 25, 2014 

At 3:41 pm, Sierra Madre Police responded to the 00 block of 
N. Baldwin Av. regarding a male subject in area with a red roller 
bag, attempting to sale a business owner narcotics. Subject was 
contacted and cited for possession of marijuana.

At 8:09 pm, Sierra Madre Police responded to the 200 block of 
Mariposa Av. regarding three subjects involved in a possible 
narcotic transaction. Upon arrival, officers spotted two of the 
subjects sitting in the rear of a vehicle. During the investigation 
officers found a credit card in one of the subject’s wallets, not 
belonging to him. The third subject was seen in a rear yard next to 
another vehicle. Subject was contacted and questioned about the 
rear license plate on the vehicle. Subject admitted to officers that 
the rear plate on the car, did not belong to the vehicle. All subjects 
were detained and a further investigation was made on both 
vehicles. Drug paraphernalia was found in one of the vehicles and 
two arrests were made. 

Saturday April 26, 2014 

At 4:58 pm Sierra Madre Police responded to the 00 block of 
Suffolk regarding a theft of a package. Resident told officers that 
she ordered a package and it was left on her front porch. When 
resident returned home she noticed that the package was there 
but the contents had been removed.

Sunday April 27, 2014 

At 12:23 pm Sierra Madre Police Officers, responded to several 
911 calls at Bailey Canyon regarding a possible victim of a 
shooting. Upon arrival officers located a male subject who 
sustained injuries to his upper extremities. Resuscitative efforts 
were made on the unresponsive subject but were unsuccessful. 
Further investigation is pending at this time.

COMMUNITY 
YARD SALE IN 
SIERRA MADRE

The City of Sierra Madre Senior Community Commission 
is hosting the 4th Annual Community Yard Sale on 
Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 
located in the Sierra Vista Park (611 E. Sierra Madre 
Blvd). Community organizations and members are invited 
to come together with their neighbors to participate in a 
community yard sale. Participants have the opportunity 
to clean out their garages, attics, storage sheds and 
closets without sending those items to landfill.

The fee for a selling space is $30.00 and a yard sale 
permit does not need to be purchased; proceeds will 
benefit senior programs and activities. Alternatively, you 
may donate items to the Senior Community Commission 
booth to be sold on the Commission’s behalf. If you 
would like to participate in the Community Yard Sale, 
you must register in person at the Community Services 
Office, 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. The Community Yard 
Sale is expanding for 2014 and will encompass the west 
parking lot and basketball court in Sierra Vista Oark. 
The deadline to register is Thursday, May 29 or until 
spaces are filled. Spots are filled on a first come, first 
serve basis.

Participants must provide their own tables, chairs, 
canopies (10’x10’ maximum) and cash boxes if needed. 
No electricity will be provided. Live animals, large 
canopies, and selling of food or drinks are prohibited. All 
business must be conducted within your space. Event 
may be cancelled due to inclement weather. 

A limited number of spaces are available. Registration 
will open Wednesday, April 16th. For more information

MONDAY, MAY 12, 2014

TRUMPET TREES AND PEACOCKS

Come to the May Garden Club Meeting and hear guest speaker Richard Schulhof, CEO, of the Los Angeles County 
Arboretum.

His program, The L.A. Arboretum Through Time, will include an exploration of the evolving Arboretum and Southern 
California gardens.

At the Arboretum, Richard focuses on programs that promote sustainability and water conservation, preserve the Arboretum's 
rich history, and make known the essential role of plants in sustaining life of Earth. Do not miss this very special 
program!

Everyone is invited. Dinner begins at 6:30 P.M. followed by the program at 7:15 P.M. Catered dinner is $10; reservations for 
dinner must be made by May 9th at 626-836-4945. There is no charge for attending only the program.

and director of Politic hocks She has been a quest on the 
Penn us Preger show, Fox news, Dr Phil, Blaze TV. She is a 
fantastic speaker. She will be speaking May 15th at the 
Arcadia Women's Republican Club in the Sunset Room at 
the Arcadia Golf Course on Santa Anita. Coffee at 10:30, 
meeting at 11:00 and Lunch for $17 at 12.
