THE JOY OF YOGA

BECOMING EFFECTIVE

CAN SKIN AGING BE REVERSED?

We all wish to be
effective in our lives
and do what we set
out to accomplish.
Further, we want
to good at it. We
want to be great
at what we do for a living, or be a great mom or
dad, husband or wife. Let me present a question
though: In those times when you have booked
too many events, or taken a few too many work
commitments, are you being successful and
effective at each one of them? Is there joy?

This is a great inquiry into how we disburse or
where we direct our energy.

Our yoga practice can help us become effective
in our life and the lives others a few different
ways. First, through breath and body awareness,
we activate our inner sensitivity. Through this
process, we gain a clear sense of how we are doing
and how we feel. This awareness translates into
real life situations and even into our relations with
others. In class, we can actually practice sustained
concentration with our attention to asana, breath
and the inner connection. This gathering of
energy can be applied in tasks or jobs as we move
in daily life. I deepen my ability to listen to my
friend uninterrupted, read my favorite book or
take time to eat lunch, sitting down.

Being able to direct energy and become effective
in my daily life is one of the best gifts of yoga. I
make better choices in how I want to schedule
my time. I can give my full attention and effort to
what or who’s right in front of me and not worry
about my next appointment. Ultimately, directing
energy is a powerful tool used to help shape the
life I want to lead. Is there anything holding you
back from becoming effective in your life?

Namaste and see you in class,

As the years go by,
our skin changes.
We begin to develop
crow’s feet around
the eyes, wrinkles and
then our skin sags. I
don’t know about you
but I feel young. And
if there is a way to
keep looking younger
than my years, I’m
interested!

If we want to help our
skin look younger
naturally, we need
to know what is
happening to our skin as we age, independent of
any skin damage such as over exposure to the sun
or smoking. There are a couple of changes taking
place once we reach 35 to 40. The very outer
protective layer of our skin thickens and gets drier.
My friends who always had oily skin are happy
when their skin starts drying up. If you are like
me and originally had normal to dry skin, it stinks!
Even my friends with oily skin eventually are not
happy. At the same time, your second layer of skin
thins and loses its elasticity.

New research suggests there is a way to really slow
and even reverse some of this skin aging, yeah!
Scientists at McMaster’s University in Ontario,
Canada found that frequent exercise as we are
aging will keep or even reverse some skin aging.
They found that people who exercised regularly
had a thinner outer layer of skin and a thicker inner
layer. People as old as 65 were found to have skin
close to a 20 to 30 year old.

You may be thinking what I was thinking, maybe
the test participants eat a healthy diet and have
great genes. Well, the researchers did a second
study using sedimentary volunteers who were
65 or older with skin representative of their age.
They had them exercise moderately, 2 days a week
for roughly 60 minutes, for three months. What
the researchers found was that most if not all of
these participants had skin that looked like that
of a 20 to 40 year old. OK, I do have to state that
the researchers used skin that wasn’t expose to the
elements or so called skin care products. They used
the skin from the participants bottoms.

Research shows that we are living longer. The
question is how do you want to live your last
20 or so years? Skin is a part of our bodies and
maintaining its health is part of maintaining our
overall health. So maybe the fountain of youth is
available to all of us. Just think of the possibilities
of eating a healthy diet and getting regular physical
activity. I know I want to live my last 20 years the
same way I am living today, vibrantly!

SCHEDULE INSTAGRAM POSTS

Scheduling social media content helps you take a
more strategic approach to your content and keeps
you organized. Hootsuite and Facebook’s own
scheduler make it easy to plan Facebook, LinkedIn
and Twitter content. But, what about Instagram?

Scheduling on Instagram is a bit trickier. When
it comes to managing Instagram with Hootsuite,
you can only view, like, and comment other
posts but you can’t upload posts/pictures through
Hootsuite.

I recently discovered a cool tool for Instagram
called Latergramme (www.latergram.me). It
allows you to upload images and schedule posts
from your desktop. But, there is a drawback. You
still need to have a mobile devise to complete
the post. Latergramme sends a reminder to your
mobile device and you have to open up Instagram
to confirm and post.

Latergramme’s free version includes 30 posts
per month and the ability to connect 2 Instagram
accounts. Their Premium account is $16 per month
and includes 250 posts per month, 2 Instagram
accounts and 2 team member collaboration. They
also offer a Brand and Agency plan for unlimited
posts, and unlimited accounts.
