LOOKING FOR A BEST FRIEND?

THANKFUL GIVING HELPS
KEEP THEM LIVING

Happy Tails

by Chris Leclerc

To share Thanksgiving with? Cooper is a 12-year-
old Chihuahua mix; although at 18 pounds, he is
larger and stockier than most Chihuahuas. Cooper
was surrendered to the shelter with his partner,
Charlie, because their owner could no longer care
for them. They were a bonded pair, but Charlie
has been adopted, so Cooper no
longer has his companion to share
a kennel with. There is no doubt
Cooper misses his best friend, but
he is now paired up with a puppy,
and the two of them get along
well with each other, in spite of
the difference in their ages.

 Cooper is a friendly, happy
boy who enjoys the company of
people. He is easy to harness, and
walks well on leash, mindful of
where his handler’s feet are, and
responsive to direction. He has
a medium energy level, and even
enjoys a bit of running. Cooper
seems to be a smart boy who
knows how to “sit” for treats,
and he’s not too old to learn new
tricks.

When you come to the shelter, you will find
Cooper at the front of his kennel, smiling and
wagging his tail, hoping someone will take him for
a walk, or even better, take him home. It’s always
hard for dogs that are surrendered to the shelter
because they have known the comforts of having
their own home. Do you have a safe and secure
home to offer Cooper? He deserves to have a yard to
relax and play in and a soft, warm bed to spend the
nights. Let’s find Cooper a home for the holidays!
Come in to meet this sweet guy soon. He qualifies
for our Senior discount, making his adoption fees
very affordable.

He currently resides at the San Gabriel Valley
Humane Society located at 851 E. Grand Avenue
in San Gabriel. We are located off San Gabriel
Blvd., north of Mission and south of Las Tunas. To
arrange a ‘Meet and Greet’ with
Cooper, please stop by any time
from 10:30am to 4:30pm Tuesday
thru Sunday.

In celebration of ‘Adopt A Senior
Pet Month’, his adoption fee is $39
which includes his neuter surgery,
a microchip, first vaccinations
and a free wellness check-up at a
participating veterinarian. Feel
free to call us at (626) 286-1159
for more information on Cooper.
Check us out at sgvhumane.
org for more information about
shelter services and photos of all
our wonderful adoptable pets.

 Celebrate the season with our
‘Fall is for Felines’ promotion.
All cats one year and older are
available until November 25th for
a $39 adoption fee.

2016 calendars are available at the shelter for a $10
donation. The photos were selected among hundreds
submitted by shelter supporters. They make great
holiday gifts for the animal lovers on your list! If
you would like to order a 2016 calendar on line, you
can stop by the shelter or do so through Paypal. Go
to the shelter website at sgvhumane.org for more
information.

Thanksgiving is once again upon us, reminding us of the
many blessings we have to be grateful for. It is the season
to share special times around the table with family and
friends, and it is also a time to share with others who are
less fortunate than ourselves.

There are numerous non-profit programs that one can
participate in to help facilitate the thankful giving process
this time of year, not the least of which are those focused
on helping animals. With countless precious pets locked
up in shelters hoping to be given a second chance at life
and certain few lucky ones who’ve temporarily escaped
that fateful destiny through the kindness of rescues and
foster families, there is no shortage of ways we can give to
help animals live. Here is a list of non-profit organizations
that offer unique and easy ways of spreading the wealth to
help animals in need. These are groups with which I am
personally familiar and have had positive experiences. It is
actually the short list, as there are far too many to include
