VOLUME 10 NO. 1

ROLLIN’ ON THE RIVER MAKES A SPLASH!

Photos by Dean Lee/MVNews

CALENDAR Pg. 2

For the 10th time in the last 11 years,
the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association
has won another award in the
Tournament of Roses Parade. The
float, “Rollin’ On The River, based
on the concept submitted by Richard
Burrow, won the Animation Award,
capturing the attention of more than
700,000 parade watchers with its
‘wild and crazy flamengoes and umbrellas
as they ‘rowed’ down the parade
route.

Riding on the float greeting spectators
were SMRFA Princesses Emily
Lopez, Alverno High School, Cameron
Martinez, Alverno High School,
Kari Savoie, Flintridge Sacred Heart
Academy and Katie Stapenhorst,
Polytechnic School.

Congratulations and thanks are in order for all of the hard working volunteers
who spent countless hours painstakingly painting, gluing and placing
millions of seeds and flowers on the float. Preparations for the float began in
early 2015. Special congratulations and thanks go to veteran volunteers and
SMRFA leaders President Dave Colcher and his wife Bonne, Kay and Dick
Sappington, Barbie Bevington, and Donna Sutcliff (partial listing).

So what’s next for this award winning organization? Breaking down the train
after a brief stop in Kersting Court and beginning work on the 2017 entry.
