ARCADIA POLICE BLOTTER

ARCADIA CHAMBER’S INSTALLATION DINNER

AND TWO SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS

For the period of Sunday, March 19th, through Saturday, March 
25th, the Police Department responded to 991 calls for service, 
of which 163 required formal investigations. The following 
is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the 
Department during this period.

Sunday, March 19:

Shortly before 12:45 p.m., an officer responded to LA Fitness, 
1325 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a burglary report. 
An investigation revealed the victim secured his wallet and 
personal items in a locker and, when he returned, the unknown 
suspect had unlocked his locker, stolen credit cards and cash 
from the victim’s wallet, and fled undetected. The investigation 
is ongoing.

 Around 10:45 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in 
the 600 block of Windsor Road regarding a domestic dispute. 
The officer discovered an argument turned physical between a 
boyfriend and girlfriend resulting in the boyfriend grabbing the 
victim by the shirt. He held onto her so she could not exit the 
vehicle. The victim sustained minor bruising. The 32-year-old 
male from Covina is outstanding at the time of this report.

Monday, March 20:

 At approximately 8:59 a.m., an officer responded to a 
residence in the 600 block of Cortez Road regarding a theft 
from vehicle report. An investigation revealed an unknown 
suspect stole the victim’s house keys from the unlocked vehicle. 
No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located. 

 Just after 10:38 a.m., officers responded to 24 Hour Fitness, 
125 North First Avenue, regarding a sexual assault report. An 
investigation revealed the male suspect initiated a sexually 
suggestive conversation with the juvenile victim while in the spa 
and when the victim left to take a shower, the suspect followed 
him, and groped him. The 47-year-old male from Whittier was 
arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

Tuesday, March 21:

 Around 10:57 a.m., an officer responded to the front counter 
of the Arcadia Police Department regarding a fraud report. The 
victim stated an unknown suspect fraudulently opened a bank 
account and cellular account in her name. The victim does not 
know how the suspect obtained her personal information.

 Just before 8:12 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in 
the 1000 block of English Oaks Drive regarding a bicycle theft 
report. The officer discovered the suspect stole the victim’s 
unlocked bicycle from the side of his residence. A short time 
later, the victim found the bike for sale on Craigslist. The 
investigation is ongoing.

Wednesday, March 22:

 Shortly after 4:13 a.m., an officer responded to Honey 
Boba, 1 West Duarte Road, regarding a burglary report. An 
investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) pried open the front 
door, causing the alarm to activate. No loss was reported, no 
suspects were seen, and no witnesses were located.

 At about 5:06 a.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia 
Police Department regarding a vandalism report. Earlier in 
the morning, officers arrested the suspect for an outstanding 
warrant. Upon release from the Arcadia City Jail, the suspect 
attempted to enter a secure area of the department parking lot 
and was seen damaging the PD landscaping, irrigation system, 
and a light control box at the City soccer field. The 27-year-old 
female from Los Angeles was transported to a local facility and 
was placed on a 72-hour hold for mental evaluation.

Thursday, March 23:

 At approximately 4:43 a.m., an officer responded to the 
Arcadia Par 3 Golf Course, 620 East Live Oak Avenue, 
regarding a burglary alarm activation. An investigation revealed 
the unknown suspect(s) cut the chain securing an exterior gate, 
pried open the front door, opened the maintenance garage 
roll-up door, and fled with various tools. The investigation is 
ongoing. 

 Around 11:06 a.m., an officer responded to the 800 block 
of Arcadia Avenue regarding a vehicle illegally parked in the 
roadway. Upon contacting the driver, the officer detected signs 
of drug use. During a consensual search of the vehicle, the 
officer located a meth pipe in the suspect’s pocket. A records 
check of the 46-year-old male from Pasadena revealed he had 
an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested and 
transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

Friday, March 24: 

 At about 3:42 p.m., an officer responded to Macy’s, 400 South 
Baldwin Avenue, regarding a petty theft report. The officer 
discovered the 26-year-old female from Duarte concealed 
numerous items of clothing before exiting the store, failing to 
make payment. The suspect was cited and released in the field 
due to medical issues. 

 Just before 10:00 p.m., an officer responded to the 24 Hour 
Fitness parking lot, 125 North First Avenue, regarding a vehicle 
burglary report. The officer determined an unknown suspect 
smashed the driver side front window, stole the victim’s wallet, 
and fled. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.

Member Linda Sells and I had 
the honor of attending Arcadia 
Chamber of Commerce 2017-2018 
Installation of Board of Directors 
Dinner and Recognition of Gene 
Glasco as Arcadia Citizen of the Year 
Award and Fasching’s Car Wash as 
Corporate Contributor of the Year.

 After we arrived and a warm 
welcome by Chamber Members, 
Gene entered with his special 
entourage including the sister of a 
dear friend, lost in Viet Nam, former 
Mayor Gail Marshall and LASD’s 
Burt Brink. 

 It was a wonderful evening-
the setting-the Club House at Santa Anita, 
a sumptuous meal and such well-deserved 
recognition.

 Gene is very humble, but this very intelligent 
man, fluent in Tagalog, has worn so many hats 
over the years. He served in the Navy, stationed 
in Viet Nam, has received degrees, began and 
operated a successful business, Glasco and 
Associates Inc., and currently is the City Clerk of 
Arcadia and a realtor with Dilbeck Real Estate in 
Arcadia. 

 Last year Gene did the impossible. It bothered 
him over the years that Arcadia lost fourteen men 
in Viet Nam, but there was no monument. He 
decided to do something about that. He sought 
assistance from Arcadia’s Elks Lodge which 
held two fundraising dinners to help towards 
the needed $50,000 in funding. Supervisor 
Mike Antonovich thought it was a wonderful 
idea so the beautiful monument was built and 
dedicated in May at a Veterans Day Celebration at 
Arcadia County Park. Congresswoman Judy Chu 
awarded Gene the “Community Activist Award” 
at her Annual Leadership Awards last July and 
Assembly Member Ed Chau gave Gene his “Make 
a Difference Award”.

 George Fasching has owned and operated 
Fasching’s Car Wash in Arcadia for almost 40 
years, employing on average 50 people at the Santa 
Anita Ave. location. He and wife Geri purchased it 
in 1977 from Exxon Oil and it was recipient of the 
International Car Wash Beautiful Award. George 
later built a fast food eatery across the street, 
eventually purchased by In ‘N Out Burger.

 George and his family have contributed to 
Boys & Girls Club of the Foothills, Foothill Unity 
Center, AHS Performing Arts Center, Pony/
Colt Baseball, Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts, Arcadia 
Festival of Bands, Arcadia Police and Firefighters 
Association, Methodist Hospital Foundation, 
Kare Youth League, American Youth Soccer, 
Arcadia Little League, Arcadia and Neighboring 
Schools, Arcadia and Neighboring Churches, 
Arcadia Campership Fund.

 Linda, Arcadia’s Mike Vercillo, Mr. Black and 
his son and I were at George’s table. Like Gene 
Glasco, George is so humble and has a great sense 
of humor. I am so blown away by his and his 
family’s extensive contributions and support to so 
many wonderful groups.

 Thank you to the Arcadia Chamber for 
providing such a wonderful evening.


CITY OF ARCADIA KID’S NIGHT OUT 6-11PM, 
FRIDAY, APRIL 14, 2017, SPRING FUN!

Join us at the Arcadia Community Center, 365 
Huntington Drive, Arcadia 91007, for some sweet 
fun. Kid’s Night Out provides kids a night of fun and 
play so mom and dad can enjoy an evening out or 
a quiet evening at home. The Arcadia Recreation 
Staff and Volunteers offer dinner, themed games, 
supervision and a movie for children ages 4 
and above. All activities will be geared toward 
elementary school children; anyone younger must 
be potty trained. Accommodations cannot be made 
for special dietary needs. The cost is $22.00 per 
child and also includes snacks and beverages. Pre-
registration is mandatory.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION IN 

MONROVIA AND DUARTE

MONROVIA FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND WITH 
EXCELLENCE TO FIRE AT 600 BLOCK OF 
MONTEREY, THROUGH THE EFFORTS OF OUR 
TEAM, THE FIRE DID NOT SPREAD INTO A 
SECOND UNIT ON THE PROPERTY

On Monday morning, at the Gold Line Station in 
Monrovia, there was a dedication and plaque to the 
late Mayor Bob Bartlett. To me, he was a gentle giant 
and even thought he wasn’t MY mayor (I live in the 
county area), he was a friend and someone greatly 
admired. When we moved into Monrovia, in1987, it 
was a city with a beautiful downtown area and was 
a desirable place to live. Bob spearheaded urban 
renewal and initiated many great changes. I would 
see Bob at either the Post Office or Library and he 
always had that big smile. Often he was in pain, but 
kept it to himself.

 Another presentation occurred at a recent Duarte 
City Council Meeting. It seems there is a new street, 
and a Via D’Aquino sign was presented to Gaetano 
D’Aquino and his family. The successful business has 
been in Duarte forty years and the family is well-
respected in the Duarte Community. Community. 
When I was on the Friends of the Duarte Library, the 
D’Aquino family graciously let us use their beautiful 
facility for our Wine Down with Friends fundraiser 
and provided the wine.

 It has been wonderful to read of positive 
happenings in our communities after the recent 
spoke in crimes.


On Sunday, March 27, 2017, our team at the Monrovia Fire 
Department was dispatched to the 600 block of Monterey 
where they discovered a duplex with fire in the rear of one 
of the units. The fire was spreading extending into the 
attic, and our team had to act quickly to be able to stop the 
blaze from engulfing all of the buildings on the property. 
Fortunately, our terrific team at the Fire Department was 
able to stop the blaze before it reached the second unit, and 
no one was hurt or injured in the incident.

 Unfortunately, two families were displaced by the 
fire, however, the City did issue SAVE cards to everyone 
involved in the incident, and we also coordinated with 
the Red Cross to assist the families with lodging and 
other immediate needs. Also, attached below are a few 
pictures from the blaze which show our Firefighters in 
action. 

DUARTE ROAD PEDESTRIAN UPGRADES 
UNVEILING APRIL 11TH AT 5:00 PM

DUARTE, CA, MARCH 28, 2017 – Biking and 
walking to and from the Duarte/City of Hope Gold 
Line Station just got a lot easier for Duarte residents 
with the addition of new sidewalks, lighting, 
landscaping, directional signs and bike lanes. Join 
Duarte officials on April 11th as they celebrate these 
pedestrian upgrades in an unveiling ceremony at 
the Duarte/City of Hope Gold Line Station Parking 
Lot starting at 5:00 pm. 

 The recently completed project was constructed 
along the north side of Duarte Rd. from Hope 
Dr. to Mountain Ave. and along Highland Ave. 
from Business Center Dr. to Evergreen St. Project 
improvements were made possible by grant funding 
from METRO as part of the 2014 State Active 
Transportation Program. The project also includes 
wayfinding (directional) signs throughout the City 
to direct travelers to points of interest; especially 
those riding the Gold Line into the community. The 
City also funded a companion project constructing 
new City entrance signs scheduled for installation 
during Summer of 2017. For additional project
