National Night Out is an annual community- building campaign that promotes police- community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationshipbetween neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a truesense of community. Unlike previous years when the SMPD hosted this event inMemorial Park, we’ve found that other cities have been able to reach out to their communities more effectively by going to NeighborhoodWatch (NW) block parties or individual parties throughout theircities. It is our intention this year to visit the NW block parties orindividual parties. As we schedule the Department’s events forthe evening, we need to know who will be participating. If you arescheduling a block party, let us know and we’ll coordinate with thecity in providing barricades if necessary. We will have representatives from the department stop by tosay hello, no presentations, just pass out a few goodies and answerquestions if you like. I’ve listed a few points to remember when yourespond.
