Lima near Highland in Sierra Madre. The accident happened near Sierra Madre Elementary School. According to Detective Henry Amos of the SMPD, the driver, who is from El Monte, was in her twenties and sustained injuries that required her to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. It was at the hospital that she was cited by the police for driving under the influence. There were no other injuries. Amos discussed the increase in such accidents and referenced the SMPD Facebook post: "Distracted driving is a public health issue that affects us all. The latest statistics show motor vehicle fatalities are up 6% from 2015. More than 40,000 people were killed on our nation's roadways last year, and distracted driving is a major contributor.
