CITY OF ARCADIA - KID’S NIGHT OUT

FRIDAY, MAY 11, 2018 - 6-11PM

FIESTA FRIDAY!

 

Come join us for some fiesta fun on Friday, May 11, 2018! Kid’s Night 
Out provides kids a night of fun and play so parents can enjoy an evening 
out or a quiet one at home. The Arcadia Recreation Staff and Volunteers 
offer dinner, themed games, supervision and a movie for children 
ages 4 and above. (Accommodations cannot be made for special 
dietary needs.) The fun takes place at the Arcadia Community Center, 
365 Campus Drive, Arcadia 91007, from 6-11pm. The cost is $22.00 
per child and includes snacks and beverages. Pre-registration is mandatory 
and can be done on-line at ArcadiaCA.gov by fax, 626.821.4370 or 
by coming into the Recreation Office, 375 Campus Drive, Arcadia, CA

ARCADIA POLICE BLOTTER

For the period of Sunday, April 22nd, through Saturday, April 
28th, the Police Department responded to 962 calls for service, 
of which 97 required formal investigations. The following 
is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the 
Department during this period.

Sunday, April 22:

Just after 3:30 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence 
in the 700 block of Arcadia Avenue regarding a domestic 
dispute. An investigation revealed the male suspect became 
enraged when he suspected the mother of his children had 
been texting another man. He pushed her down by her neck 
and broke her cellphone. The suspect also had an outstanding 
warrant for his arrest. An Emergency Protective Order was 
issued and the 29-year-old male from El Monte was arrested 
and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

 At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to Par 3 
Golf Course, 620 East Live Oak Avenue regarding a battery 
that had just occurred. The victim stated that he was engaged 
in an argument with the suspect when the suspect hit his 
head several times with a three foot long tree branch. The 
investigation is ongoing. 

Monday, April 23:

Just after midnight, officers were dispatched to the 12,000 
block of Lower Azusa Road regarding the report of a solo 
vehicle traffic collision with a tree. Officers located the 
severely damaged Chevrolet Astro Van and discovered the 
male driver and male passenger were trapped inside. They 
were extracted by Arcadia Fire Department personnel. The 
cause of the collision is being investigated by The Arcadia 
Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team. 

 Just after 12:30 a.m., officers were patrolling a construction 
site in the 800 block of West Huntington Drive when they 
observed a male subject leaving the site. A consensual search 
of the subject led to the discovery of methamphetamine and 
drug paraphernalia. The 28-year-old male from Pasadena was 
arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

Tuesday, April 24:

 Just before 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a residence 
in the 1300 block of Standish Place regarding the report of 
a burglary. An investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) 
entered the residence through an unlocked rear window. 
The suspect(s) entered the attached garage, stole three 
woodworking saws and fled the scene undetected. The 
victims were home at the time but did not see or hear the 
suspects. 

 Just after 10:00 p.m., officers responded to the 500 
block of West Huntington Drive regarding the report of 
an unresponsive female in a pool. Officers retrieved the 
female from the pool and the Arcadia Fire Department 
began performing lifesaving procedures. The female was 
transported to a hospital where she was pronounced 
deceased. The investigation is ongoing. 

Wednesday, April 25:

 At about 3:00 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence 
in the 800 block of Kingsley Drive regarding the report of a 
burglary. An investigation revealed, a newer model silver four 
door sedan with paper plates was seen parked to the front of 
the residence when two male suspects, wearing black hooded 
sweatshirts, exited the passenger side of the car and jumped 
the fence to the east side of the property. They removed a 
screen from an open rear window, entered the residence and 
stole two handbags and several watches before fleeing the 
scene. 

 Just after 4:00 p.m., an officer responded to the 1000 block 
of Singingwood Drive regarding the report of a suspicious 
vehicle in the area. The officer conducted a traffic stop on 
the vehicle and contacted the occupants. The driver was 
discovered to be driving with a suspended license and he 
provided the officer with registration for a different vehicle. 
An investigation revealed the occupants were in possession 
of high powered magnets, wire cutters and a booster bag. 
Several pairs of jeans and other merchandise with tags still 
attached were also found inside the vehicle. The 36-year-
old male from Alhambra and the 33-year-old male from 
Monterey Park were arrested and transported to the Arcadia 
City Jail for booking. 

Thursday, April 26:

 At about 7:40 p.m., an officer was patrolling the area of 
Oakwood Drive and Sycamore Avenue when he noticed a 
vehicle with tinted windows and paper plates stop past the 
limit line at the intersection. The officer conducted a traffic 
stop on the vehicle and discovered that the occupants were in 
possession of burglary tools, drug paraphernalia and several 
stolen credit cards. One subject had an outstanding warrant 
for her arrest. The vehicle was impounded and the 34-year-
old male and 31-year-old female, both from Lake Havasu, 
Arizona, along with the 38-year-old male from Arcadia, 
were all arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for 
booking. 

 Just after 8:00 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a 
residence in the 600 block of Sunset Boulevard regarding a 
domestic dispute. A mother was concerned for her son who 
was extremely intoxicated. He fell on the kitchen floor and 
requested paramedics to respond before he left the house. He 
was located outside and Arcadia Fire Department personnel 
responded to evaluate him. The officer determined he 
was unable to care for himself. The 21-year-old male from 
Arcadia was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail 
for booking. 

Friday, April 27: 

 Just before 8:00 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop 
on a vehicle in the area of Colorado Place and Colorado 
Boulevard for making a left turn against a red arrow. Upon 
contacting the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of 
alcohol emitting from the driver. Through a series of tests, 
the officer determined the 30-year-old female from Queen 
Creek, Arizona was driving under the influence of an 
alcoholic beverage. She was arrested and transported to the 
Arcadia City Jail for booking.

 At approximately 8:40 p.m., an officer responded to a 
residence in the 100 block of East Norman Avenue regarding 
an audible alarm. The officer discovered a smashed rear glass 
sliding door. A bedroom had been ransacked, however the 
victim claimed nothing of value was missing. No suspects 
were seen and no witnesses were located. 

Saturday, April 28:

 Just after 1:00 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of 
West Arthur Avenue regarding a suspicious person wearing 
a hooded sweatshirt looking over a fence to a rear yard. A 
suspicious vehicle was parked in the area occupied by a 
female and child. They were contacted and found to be in 
possession of stolen property. It was determined the female 
was waiting for her brother while he committed burglaries. 
He was contacted through her phone and refused to return 
to the location. The 43-year-old female from Glendora was 
arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

At around 10:30 p.m., officers responded to Chef’s Coffee 
Shop, 13 East Live Oak Avenue regarding a burglary alarm 
activation. Officers discovered pry marks on the front door 
and the cash register drawer on the floor. Surveillance footage 
showed a suspect entered the location, discovered the register 
was empty then exited the restaurant. The investigation is 
ongoing.

Warrant – Suspects Arrested April 26 at 9:23 a.m., 
a resident in the 800 block of W. Duarte reported a 
male subject in front of her house who was yelling and 
causing a disturbance. Officers arrived and contacted 
the subject. A computer check revealed he had a 
warrant for his arrest, so he was arrested and taken into 
custody. 

Assault with a Deadly Weapon April 26 at 4:08 p.m., 
two male subjects had been drinking at a bar in the 
1100 block of E. Huntington and an argument started 
between the two subjects. One of the subjects hit the 
other in the head with a glass mug, then fled the bar. 
Officers and paramedics arrived, but the victim refused 
medical treatment. This investigation is continuing.

 

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested April 
26 at 9:58 p.m., the Special Enforcement Team was on 
patrol in the 700 block of S. Primrose when they saw 
a motorist in front of them violate a driving law. They 
stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver, who 
they found to be intoxicated. Field sobriety tests were 
conducted, and the driver was arrested for DUI. 


Warrant – Suspect Arrested April 27 at 3:04 a.m., an 
officer was patrolling the 100 block of E. Huntington 
when he saw two subjects near the intersection who 
appeared to be intoxicated. He stopped to speak with 
them. A computer check revealed one of the subjects 
had multiple warrants for his arrest; he was arrested and 
taken into custody. The second subject was intoxicated, 
but was capable of caring for their own safety. 

Traffic Collision April 27 at 6:33 a.m., a motorist was 
traveling along the 300 block of W. Foothill when 
another motorist made a left turn in front of the first 
vehicle from a side street and caused a collision. No one 
was injured in the collision. The party at fault was issued 
a citation for the driving violation. 

Possession of a Controlled Substance / Possession of 
Drug Paraphernalia / Warrant – Suspect Arrested 
April 27 at 8:42 a.m., residents in the 100 block of N. 
Highland reported a female subject going through 
people’s trashcans on the street. Officers arrived and 
located the subject. A computer check revealed she had 
several warrants for her arrest, so she was arrested and 
taken into custody. A search incident to arrest revealed 
she was in possession of methamphetamine and drug 
paraphernalia, which were added to her charges. 

Warrants – Suspects Arrested April 27 between 7:51 and 
9:29 p.m., the Special Enforcement Team detained two 
subjects, one in the 700 block of Valley View and the 
other in the 1900 block of S. Myrtle. Computer checks 
revealed both subjects had warrants for their arrest, so 
they were arrested and taken into custody. 

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested April 28 
at 12:56 a.m., an officer was on patrol in the 1400 block 
of S. Myrtle when he saw a motorist in front of him 
commit a vehicle code violation. The officer stopped the 
vehicle and approached the driver, who appeared to be 
intoxicated. Field sobriety tests were conducted and the 
driver was arrested for DUI. 

Warrant – Suspect Arrested April 28 at 10:33 a.m., 
the employee of a business in the 200 block of W. 
Huntington arrived to work and found a male subject 
sleeping on the front lawn of the business. Officers 
arrived and contacted the subject. A computer check 
revealed he had a felony warrant for his arrest and was 
on mandatory probation supervision, so he was arrested 
and taken into custody. 

Petty Theft April 28 at 5:29 p.m., a resident in the 600 
block of Anita arrived home and discovered someone 
had taken a package from their front porch that had been 
delivered earlier in the day by UPS. This investigation is 
continuing. 

Domestic Violence April 30 at 4:21 p.m., officers 
responded to a home in the 500 block of W. Duarte 
regarding a possible family argument. When they 
arrived, they discovered a male subject in the home had 
hit his wife, but did not cause any visible injuries. He 
was arrested for domestic battery. 

We wanted to let everyone know that Ms. Joyce Leeman 
was been selected as Monrovia’s Older American of the 
Year! A committee made up of Katie Gundersen, Steve 
Huntely, and Nidia Delgado selected her for recognition, 
and some of Ms. Leeman’s involvement in the community 
includes the following:Recently celebrated her 10th 
year as a driver for the Foothill Unity Center Active 
in her church (foreign missionary board member, led 
youth ministries, founded the food pantry Loaves and 
Fishes) Organized food drives that fed several Monrovia 
families Housed foreign exchange studentsAssisted with 
many outreach programsOn the Board of directors of 
Children of the Shepard Los Wise Compassionate Center 
(who assists the homeless)Provided care packages over 
seasAssists seniors in her neighborhood get around to 
important meetings and voting pollsAssisted in hospice

HGTV SHOW “RESTORED” IS LOOKING TO COME TO 
MONROVIA… SO NOMINATE YOUR HOME TODAY!

The producers for the HGTV series Restored are 
planning to film an episode of a home restoration 
in Monrovia this year, and they need to find 
a home to restore! The criteria for the subject 
home is as follows: Home needs to be built 
before 1955. Restoration of 3-4 rooms including 
kitchen plus front exterior. Minimum home 
owner contribution of $55-60,000 to restoration 
depending on condition of house. Homeowner 
needs to move out of home for approximately 
7-10 weeks - dependent on level of restoration – 
sometime around September/October of this year. 
Homeowner has to move all belongings out of 
rooms being restored into storage - can be in the 
garage or secured rooms in the house not being 
restored. If you fulfill all the criteria above, please

spaces. Send the address of the house, square 
footage, number of rooms/bedrooms/bathrooms, 
etc., and the year built. A small history of yourself 
and why you bought your house and why you want

on which house to use will be made soon, so do 
not delay submitting your information if you are 
interested in being considered for this project!
