PASADENA, CA – (May 8, 2018) – A team of La
Salle High School’s scholars took home a multitude
of awards after the school hosted the Regional
Round for the World Scholars Cup on Monday,
April 30, 2018. Over 150 students and 51 teams
in the senior division competed during the 14-
hour day. Of the 42 Lancers participating, Joshua
Ng ‘19, Long Lin ‘19, and Jackie Henley ‘19 won
first place for the Team Event and Jackie Henley
finished 2nd for individual medals.

“I’m proud of my Lancer Scholars, as they had
less than three months to prepare for hundreds of
pages of material,” said John Erb, moderator of the
La Salle High School Academic Decathlon team,
who coordinated La Salle’s hosting of the World
Scholars Cup. He added that his students “even
snuck in extra time for practice debates during
long afternoons and they displayed that tenacity as
multiple Lancer teams went undefeated. I hope this
turns into a series of future personal successes for
them at La Salle and in the future.”

Not only did La Salle students win first place, but
they also took 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 10th place in
the Team Event competition.

The best overall award for collaborative writing
went to Cristina de la Cruz ’18 with Evelyn Ogier
’20 finishing close behind in third place.

La Salle’s team of Katie Nuzzi ‘19, Kees Hood
‘19, and Kate Mena ‘19 championed the overall
Scholar’s Challenge multiple-choice test, with Josh
Ng, Long Lin, and Jackie Henley finishing in 3rd
place.

Mark Camarena ‘18 scored the highest mark for
the Social Studies part of the test while Katie Nuzzi
scored the highest mark for Literature as well as the
Special Area.

After the school year ends in June, several of
La Salle High School’s scholars will compete in
Melborne, Australia in August. That team includes
Katie Nuzzi, Kees Hood, and Kate Mena.

LA SALLE HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS PRESENTS
CONTRIBUTION TO CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL LA
FROM ALL IN BASEBALL GAMES

PASADENA, CA – (May 8, 2018) – La Salle
High School’s Baseball team, along with
players and coaches from six other schools,
presented a charitable contribution to the
Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA) on
April 30, 2018. The funds are a result of the All
In Baseball Games, an annual charity baseball
tournament organized by local high schools in
the greater Pasadena area. CHLA received a
contribution of $6,000.

 “The All-In Baseball Tournament brings
together some of the finest high school scholar
athletes throughout Los Angeles, Ventura
and Riverside counties. Their passion for
competitive baseball and helping sick children
is remarkable. CHLA is very fortunate to have
these long-term relationships. We are grateful
to the tournament organizer, Harry Agajanian
and all of the players, coaches and parents
that have supported this tournament for the
past seven years,” said Robert Weiner, Vice
President of Development for CHLA.

La Salle’s baseball Director of Baseball
Operations, Harry Agajanian, presented CHLA
with the charitable contribution in the company
of the La Salle High School Baseball team,
along with student athletes and coaches from
multiple schools that participated in the games.
Children’s Hospital gave the entire group a
tour of the campus and introduced the coaches
and athletes to select patients, where the kids
received signed baseballs and caps from the
athletes.

“This is a wonderful experience, not only for
the kids in the hospital, but for our own student
athletes as well. The greatest joy of living is the
joy that comes from giving,” said Agajanian.

The year’s event is the fourth annual All In
Baseball Games. All In was first organized by
Agajanian, who initially began the program
in 2014 to give back to the community and
promote La Salle’s baseball facilities to current
and prospective athletes. The tournament’s goal
is to foster community relations and promote
athleticism in the form of playing baseball for
children who might not have the playing skills
the student athletes have. Since its creation,
the All In tournament has expanded from its
initial 24 team entries to 55 entries, with over
$26,000 donated to the Children’s Hospital of
Los Angeles in La Salle High School’s name.

High School, contact Keira Wight at kwight@
