SEA STORIES: MY LIFE IN SPECIAL OPERATIONS by William
H. McRaven

Following the success of his #1 New York Times bestseller Make Your Bed,
which has sold over one million copies, Admiral William H. McRaven is
back with amaz-ing stories of adventure during his career as a Navy SEAL
and commander of America's Special Operations Forces.Admiral William
H. McRaven is a part of American military history, having been involved
in some of the most famous mis-sions in recent memory, including the
capture of Saddam Hussein, the rescue of Captain Richard Phillips, and
the raid to kill Osama bin Laden. Sea Stories begins in 1960 at the American
Officers' Club in France, where Allied officers and their wives gathered
to have drinks and tell stories about their adventures during World War II
-- the place where a young Bill McRaven learned the value of a good story.
Sea Stories is an unforgettable look back on one man's incredible life, from
child-hood days sneaking into high-security military sites to a day job of
hunting terror-ists and rescuing hostages. Action-packed, inspiring, and
full of thrilling stories from life in the special operations world, Sea Stories is a remarkable memoir
from one of America's most accomplished leaders.

THE SONG OF ACHILLES: A Novel by Madeline Miller

“At once a scholar’s homage to The Iliad and startlingly original work of art by
an incredibly talented new novelist….A book I could not put down.”—Ann
Patchett.Madeline Miller’s thrilling, profoundly moving, and utterly unique
retell-ing of the legend of Achilles and the Trojan War. A tale of gods, kings,
immortal fame, and the human heart, The Song of Achilles is a dazzling literary
feat that brilliantly reimagines Homer’s enduring masterwork, The Iliad.
An action-packed adventure, an epic love story, a marvelously conceived and
executed page-turner, Miller’s monumental debut novel has already earned
resounding acclaim from some of contemporary fiction’s brightest lights—
and fans of Mary Renault, Ber-nard Cornwell, Steven Pressfield, and Colleen
McCullough’s Masters of Rome se-ries will delight in this unforgettable journey
back to ancient Greece in the Age of Heroes.

THE PRINCE OF TIDES: A Novel by Pat Conroy

In his most brilliant and powerful novel, Pat Conroy tells the story of Tom Wingo, his twin sister, Savannah,
and the dark and violent past of the family into which they were born.
Set in New York City and the lowcountry of South Carolina, the novel opens
when Tom, a high school football coach whose marriage and career are crumbling,
flies from South Carolina to New York after learning of his twin sister's
suicide attempt. Savannah is one of the most gifted poets of her generation,
and both the cadenced beauty of her art and the jumbled cries of her illness are
clues to the too-long-hidden story of her wounded family. In the paneled offices
and luxurious restaurants of New York City, Tom and Susan Lowenstein,
Savan-nah's psychiatrist, unravel a history of violence, abandonment, commitment,
and love. And Tom realizes that trying to save his sister is perhaps his
last chance to save himself. With passion and a rare gift of language, the author
moves from pre-sent to past, tracing the amazing history of the Wingos
from World War II through the final days of the war in Vietnam and into the
1980s, drawing a rich range of characters: the lovable, crazy Mr. Fruit, who for
decades has wordlessly directed traffic at the same intersection in the southern
town of Colleton; Reese Newbury, the ruthless, patrician land speculator
who threatens the Wingos' only secure worldly possession, Melrose Island; Herbert Woodruff, Susan
Lowenstein's hus-band, a world-famous violinist; Tolitha Wingo, Savannah's mentor and eccentric
grandmother, the first real feminist in the Wingo family. Pat Conroy reveals the lives of his characters
with surpassing depth and power, capturing the vanishing beauty of the South Carolina lowcountry
and a lost way of life.A wonderful book. The 3 reviews are from Amazon.com
