HURACHE FARMS SIERRA MADRE by Kelli
Strubinski
We have a farm in our own backyard here in Sierra Madre. Actually it is in Mike
Wood's, back-yard on Monterey Lane and it is called Huarache Farms.
Mike started Huarache Farms 12 year ago, out of a love for growing healthy, sustainable
food. His curiosity led him to research and implement smart farming techniques
that work for our local soil and climate without using pesticides.
Huarache Farms produces a variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs and plant based products.
Mike loves a challenge and plans to offer mushrooms for sale in the near future.
Mike makes pesto, passion fruit dressing, vegetable powders for smoothies and fruit
powders as sweetener substi-tutes. He doesn't think anything should go to waste and
loves to experiment with new growing techniques and products.
Huarache Farm's sells produce boxes for home delivery or pickup. Select your weekly
items for your box here: https://www.huarachefarms.com/how-it-works. Be sure to
check out the fantastic list of current offerings at the "whats-in-season" link.
Huarache Farms is a coop, welcoming new farmers to the
farming scene. Prior experience is not required. Mike is
generous with his extensive farming knowledge, which
covers many different soil and climate types.
Mike plans to give workshops once it is safe for people to gather. Medicinal Herbs, Drying your Fruits, Growing Micro-
greens are a few of the subject areas of interest he may offer. Please visit his website weekly for workshop announcements.
Huarache Farms has a monthly, Saturday, "Tea and Tour" from 1 to 3 when conditions per-mit. You don't want to miss
this! You can sign up to be on the guest list on their website.
Be sure to read Mike's story and learn more about Huarache Farms at their web-site: https://www.huarachefarms.com.
