Sierra Madre Little league kicked off their season with their annual parade from Taylor's market down to Heasley field.

In what has become a Sierra Madre tradition, the morning started
off with donuts and coffee provided by Tay-lors Market. For
the first time in two years, players were able to be back with their
teammates, in all their glo-ry, with over 30 trucks decked out
to support their teams, with 12 screaming players sitting in the
truck beds.

Leading the front of the parade was this year's grand marshal -
Lisa Carlson (8-year board member and “Diner Lady”) who is
a favorite around town and a legend at the Heasley Field snack
shack.

The parade concluded at Heasley Field - where the festivities
continued with the annual opening day ceremo-ny - recognizing
this year's record 28 teams, including boys and girls from
age 4 to 12.

This year - SMLL had their largest turnout on record, with almost
350 players this season. Many parents said they were eager
to get kids out on the field and out of the house after COVID-19
took them out of school and stopped most youth sports in 2020
and during virus surges in 2021.

In order to prep for the record turnout, a ton of planning was
done, as well as refurbishments both at Heasley Field and Sierra
Madre Elementary. Local board members spent the winter
months prepping and rebuilding the south field at the elementary
school, and it is already hosting games.

City residents and local businesses have rallied around SMLL
this year, with quite a few new sponsors. Most notably, is the
retail shop Collective Co-Op who donated the new “Go Madre”
mural adjacent to the snack shack.

Be sure to come down to check out a game and grab a burger
or hotdog from the grill. If a morning game is more your style,
come grab a cup of coffee (iced or hot) from their new sponsor
Lotus Coffee and your favor-ite newspaper while watching the
growing Challenger division - every Saturday at 9am).

For more information and game schedules, you can follow them
on social or check out www.SMLL.org.
