12 YEAR OLD PALOMA MOON RECORDS TRIPLE PLAY AS SOFTBALL LEAGUE EXPANDS
8U Division:
SMGSA's 8U Red Wrecking Balls (RBW) faced stiff opposition from La Cañada, but jumped to an early first-inning lead with a 2 RBI single to
center field by Amia Macias, scoring lead-off batter Alyssa Schulman and Maddie Arias. Addison Arnerich then drove in Macias with a single,
before taking the mound to try to hold back La Canada’s hand-selected all-star lineup. Gloria Brusseau carried on the same valiant effort in the
3rd inning, backed by shining defensive moments in the field to keep La Canada in check. Macias and Emilia Turnquist stopped multiple hard
shots, while outfielder Bella Frayeh made strong throws, and Piper Hendrich and Hannah Skinner also turned in impressive gems.
10 U Division:
The 10U Select team won a doubleheader against San Marino’s “Prestige” teams, including
a combined NO-hitter thrown by Raqui Pagan and Maddie Lencioni, and dominant offense
led by Lydia Gotlieb’s home run.
SMGSA 12U Team “Chaos: secured a solid win against a visiting Monterey Park Select team.
First-time catcher Jadyn Shaver (pictured in green) was a force behind the plate, blocking
pitches and connecting with Christina Koroghlian (3B) to catch a runner trying to steal.
Coach Shaver was proud to see the girls learning to work together and try new positions—all
while having fun!
Also in 12U action, the Poison Apples got a bit smashed by the Pink Fury, with Paloma
Moon with putting up the defensive gem of the weekend, a TRIPLE PLAY that opened when
she stabbed a hard line drive at short, tagged the runner passing her from second base, and
then alertly tossing to third before June Meek could get back. If that’s not amazing enough,
Moon came in to close the game in dominant fashion on the mound!
Finally, the 12U Selects were also one of the Madre teams battling in San Dimas. No surprise,
Layla Loya and Havana Pagan were among the hitters doing serious damage, with Zoe
Parisi pictured sliding into home after one of those big hits.
14 U Division:
Up at the 14U division, the Cactus Coolers battled hard against the Madre Dodgers, with
great pitching by Abby Withers,
backed by amazing defense by Car-
than and Brynn Connolly. Withers
and Abby Mathess also contributed
key hits, complementing a huge night
at the plate by Roxanne Wilkins 2 for
3 (pictured in red hitting a triple).
Finally, with a smooth stroke of her
bat, Gemma Converse nearly hit it
out to center field at Heasley, short
hopping the wall one of her two
triples that helped her team nearly
beat one of Monterey Park’s visiting
Select teams. Brenna Henley delivered
her always trusty pitching on
the mound, along with great hits, to
keep things close against the “hand-
selected” visitor lineup.
