Sierra Madre News Briefs

On Thursday, approximately 1,000 signatures were submitted to the City
Clerk's office in support of placing a parcel tax measure on the November
Ballot, pending verification. Both the Sierra Madre City Clerk's Office and
the LA County Registrar of Voters office have to confirm.

In the April 20th edition of this paper (
htm/n16/index.htm), Mayor Pro Tem Robert Parkhurst shared a story that
gave a good example of why the city needs to preserve its Public Safety

"......As a small city, our strength is our residents. We make this city the
most desirable place to live in the region. We have incredible events and
fantastic services. We need to maintain those services and the most
efficient way to do that is with a modest public safety tax. This tax will
provide more than $2 million a year for our police and fire departments.
It ends up being about $1.32 per household every day. This is a worthwhile
investment for the lifesaving services our police and fire departments
provide us." You can learn more at

Belowis a picture from the recent Public Safety Workshop presented to
the public last weekend. The event shown is a demonstrations.
