COUNCIL RETURNS TO FULL AGENDA


In addition to the events planned 
throughout the day on Tuesday, 
September 10, 2024, the Sierra Madre 
City Council will return from its 
annual August hiatus to address a 
number of important issues. 

Public Hearings: There are two 
scheduled hearings - 

Parking of Commercial and 
Recreational Vehilces and Trailers in 
residential districts - Analysis from 
city staff: The presence of trailers and 
commercial and recreational vehicles 
reduce roadway space for motorists 
(especially on narrow streets), occupy 
multiple parking spaces, limit the 
line of sight of approaching traffic at 
intersections and driveways, and cause 
visual blight. The City Council 

first attempted to address these 
concerns in 2020, when it adopted 
Ordinance No. 1426, regulating the 
parking of recreational and commercial 
vehicles in residential districts. But 
the City continues to receive code 
enforcement complaints regarding 
unlawfully parked commercial and 
recreational vehicles

The proposed amendment to the 
City's non-smoking ordinance seeks 
to extend the existing smoking ban to 
include all city parks and trails. This 
initiative is aimed at promoting public 
health, enhancing the enjoyment of 
outdoor spaces, and protecting the City 
of Sierra Madre.

Also on the agenda:

How To Survive The Big One

In response to the 2023-2024 LA 
County Civil Grand Jury report on 
earthquake safety and readiness, the 
SMFD as the city's key agency, will 
have the opportunity

review the report and align its policies 
accordingly. It is recommended that 
Sierra Madre "suggests expanding the 
Community Emergency Response 
Team (CERT) training program. (Staff 
Report)

The council meeting will begin at 5:30 
pm.

The city has announced that its 
website domain is changing! Starting 
September 10th, the official website 
will move from cityofsierramadre.com 
to sierramadreca.gov. "Please update 
your bookmarks and note that the new 
domain will provide the same access 
to all the resources, information, and 
services you rely on. We are committed 
to continuing to serve the Sierra Madre 
community with the highest level of 
service and transparency."
