SMGSA's All-Star teams have continued their strong play with multiple tournament wins and 
qualifying for the USA Softball State Tournament. 

The 8U Gold All Star Team coached by Chris Bates has qualified for the California StateGames following a 5th Place Finish in the Northern District Championship and then animpressive 7th Place Finish (out of 48 Teams) in the USA Softball B State Championship,
which included winning 5, yes 5 games in a row on the Fourth of July. The team was 
led by Pitchers Avery Coren and Oliva Rios who handled all of the pitching during theState Tournament. The defense was anchored by infielders Julia Foley, Audrey Castro,
and Ariana Arceo. Ellie Bates and Brooklyn Rodriquez handled the catching duties inthe heat during the 5 game stretch. Ella Mueller and Olivia Gonzalez both came up withclutch hits throughout the tournament. While Michaela Brown, Alena Christy, and ElliotDill all had big RBIs in the final game to qualify for the California State Games. This is 
the first time an 8U team has qualified for the California State Games in four years. Theywill head to San Diego July 17-19 to compete with the best 8U teams on the West Coast.

 The 12U Gold All-Star Team coached by Joe Ybarra followed up a Tournament winat the Glendora Pride of the Foothills Tournament by winning the Northern DistrictChampionship in undefeated fashion. This finish allowed the team to compete in theUSA Softball B State Championship over the Fourth of July Weekend. The members of 
the 12U Gold Team included two time Northern District Champions Victoria Moreno,
Giselle Luna, and Abigail Sanchez. The rest of the team who completed the undefeatedrun was Rebecca Vazquez, Darcy Lansford, Thalia Acosta, Emma Feng, Harlow Chan,
Maddie Montes, Lucille Pazmino, Ciela Ybarra, Eloise Westervelt, Kelsey Ingram, andBryanna Lopez. 

The 14U All-Star Team coached by Russell Meek qualified for the USA Softball CDistrict Championships in Lancaster, California. After starting the tournament winningtheir first game and losing the next, they went on to win 6 games over the next two daysto finish in 4th Place. This included beating Glendora 18-8 to clinch a spot in the top 
four. Many of these girls have played in Sierra Madre for 8 plus seasons and this wasan amazing run to end their Sierra Madre Softball careers. The team was made of of 
June Meek, Elenie Vazuez, Laurel Traeger, Lolo Ortega, Lorelei Linnett, Kayden Krost,
Aria Ortega, Chelsie Yoshida, Taylor Carlson, Emma Valenzuela, Grace Noser, MilaWestervelt, and Leah Zepeda.

(Sierra Madre, CA – July 7, 2026) Sierra Madre Playhouse – reflecting its own historic path from silentmovie house to one of the Southland’s leading performing arts centers – bridges silent-film history andlive music vitality with a program pairing the groundbreaking 1925 silent film Battleship Potemkin withthe world premiere of a music score for string quartet and vocal quintet composed and conducted live byGeorge Sarah. Back-to-back performances are set for Friday and Saturday, August 14 and 15, 2026, 8:00PM, at the historic 99-seat venue. 

Sergei Eisenstein’s cinematic landmark, which still resonates today, charts the 1905 uprising aboard theRussian battleship Potemkin with gripping montage, rhythm and emotional energy. 

Sarah, known for melding electronic, classical and chamber music traditions, reimages the film, bringinghis unique sonic voice to this filmic masterpiece — integrating string quartet textures, a five-voice vocalensemble, and subtle electronic elements to transform the screening into a multisensory experience. WithSarah’s score, the visuals are echoed and amplified: the strings underscore dramatic tension and camaraderie;
the voices give human edge to mass uprising; and the electronics add depth and contemporary resonance.
