1630 AM EMERGENCY RADIO & 
Free on-air publicity for local events 
Sierra Madre’s EMERGENCY radio station is now accepting scripts for 
Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about community events. PSAs will 
be broadcast on the air at no charge. The station operates 24/7 and can be 
heard at 1630 on the AM dial. 
Any local non-profit or non-commercial organization can have their 
event information broadcast to the public on Sierra Madre Communitynformation Radio.IThe station covers the city of Sierra Madre, plus 
surrounding areas of Pasadena, Arcadia, and Monrovia. 
Your event must: 
• 
Benefit a non-commercial or non-profit entity• 
Be open to the public 
• 
Be of general interest to local citizens 
Just write a Public Service Announcement that describes your event and

Last Tuesday was the firstday of fall! Yay! GoodbyeSummer, we’re glad tosee you go! What doesit mean when we say thefirst day of Fall? Well!
The autumnal equinoxmarks the exact moment 
the sun crosses directlyabove Earth’s equator. 
In case you didn’t 
know, climatologists 
track the seasons by 
weather patterns,
counting September 1stas the official start of 
meteorological autumn. 

We probably don’t careeven one single PumpkinSpice Latte about anyof that because we have 
been feasting on the 
aforementioned lattes, buying Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream, PumpkinSpice Creamer and, if we’re lucky, a piece of Pumpkin Cheesecakeat the Cheesecake Factory. Much to my joy, friends and neighbors, Ihave been enjoying all of the above! I hope you have, too.

It’s sweater weather, finally!
I’m falling for autumn.
Leaves are falling, autumn is calling.
I honestly don’t think any of us are pulling out our sweaters yet asit’s still pretty warm. However, as the annual Scarecrow Contest is

already underway, you might see interesting creations such as theone in today’s picture here and there around town. I’m hoping you’llsee today’s picture as our editor has had trouble fitting them in forthe last few weeks. Fingers crossed for this week. 

It’s too early to buy Halloween candy, but it’s falling off the shelvesin our market and, my oh my, what a variety. Costco was ourfavorite place for candy as the bags were huge and we ignored theprice. I came across an article last week and I’ll share portions of itwith you: 

“In the run-up to Halloween, which can account for nearly a fifthof annual confectionery retail sales, Hershey has added more saltysnacks such as popcorn, cheese puffs and pretzels. “Certainly,
the Lesser Evil brand and our salty snacks brands, Skinny Popand Pirate’s Booty are having a greater presence in Halloween inresponse to the healthy eating dynamic.” Cheese puffs are healthy? 

Chocolate is still the Halloween snack of choice. Reese’s Pieces 
are at the ready with their expanded range of small individuallywrapped pieces. But have you tried Reese’s Werewolf Tracks MilkChocolate and Vanilla Flavored Crème Snack Size Peanut Butter 
Cups? Or Reese’s Pieces with Chocolate Cookie? This is a crispy 
chocolate cookie center inside the classic crunchy candy shell and 
peanut butter flavor. 

Trunk or Treat events are becoming more and more popular, heldat neighborhood churches and local parks so we’re seeing fewer andfewer costumed kids ringing our doorbells. However, last year I ranout of candy before 8:30 so I’m buying more. Turning my porchlight out when I could see kids across the street heading my waywas painful!

My house is fully pumpkin-ified, I’m ready to buy candy and nowthat it’s officially Fall, I’m gearing up to seeing scarecrows here,
there and everywhere!
