For The Period December 8-15, 2013
Tuesday December 10, 2013
At approximately 3pm, a white Nissan pickup truck was stolen
from the 400 block of North Sunnyside Avenue. The truck, which
contained several gardening tools, was seen being driven away
from the location by an unknown male. Witnesses saw the vehicle
being followed by a tan Ford Explorer. With the assistance of the
police helicopter, a search of the area was conducted but neither
vehicle was located. As of December 16, 2013, the vehicle still had
not been found.
Thursday December 12, 2013
At 3:15pm, a traffic collision occurred on Highland Avenue just
east of Michillinda Avenue. A vehicle travelling eastbound veered
to the right and collided with a vehicle parked at the south curb.
The force of the impact caused the eastbound vehicle to roll over
onto the roof of the parked vehicle. The driver was unhurt and the
passenger sustained only minor injury. The investigation revealed
that the driver and passenger became distracted when they focused
on their cell phones just prior to the collision. Additionally, the
driver displayed objective symptoms of intoxication and open
alcoholic beverage containers were found at the scene. The driver
was arrested for DUI.
Friday December 13, 2013
At 2pm, a traffic collision took place in the intersection of Lima
Avenue and Montecito Avenue. A westbound vehicle entered the
intersection without yielding to the southbound vehicle which
had the right of way. The force of the initial impact caused the
southbound vehicle to collide with a third vehicle parked at the
curb. Although major vehicle damage was evident, no serious
injuries were reported.
Saturday December 14, 2013
At approximately 7:30pm a family visited the Yogurt and More Store
in Kersting Court. When they left the location, they forgot their
Apple IPAD and Mini IPAD. A few minutes later they returned
to the location and determined the items had been removed from
the table where they had left them. No witnesses were located.
Detectives will be reviewing store video to determine if the theft
was recorded.
ONE NIGHT ONLY! “THE
CHRISTMAS CAROL MURDER
MYSTERY” AT SIERRA MADRE
PLAYHOUSE ON
DECEMBER 22
For those of you who enjoy “A Christmas Carol”,
you can enjoy the Sierra Madre Playhouse’s mainstage production
of the traditional tale of Scrooge and Tiny Tim.
But here’s a twist on the Christmas Carol you’re familiar
with. You still get the story you love, slightly condensed,
except by the end of Act 1 a murder has happened. Jacob
Marley becomes the detective, thanks to night school, and
the characters you love, Bob and Ethel Cratchit, Fred and
Elizabeth, Belle and of course, Tiny Tim, are all suspects.
Oh, did we say there are your usual Ghosts and even a surprise
ending? Enjoy one of your favorite Christmas stories
with this interactive Murder Mystery worked into a joyous
holiday tale.
This Dickens of a murder mystery is directed by
Ken Salzman and presented by Sanzman Productions
Renaissance Murder Mystery Players and Sierra Madre
Playhouse.

THE COMMUNITY CHORUS OF
REDLANDS RETURNS
The Community Chorus of Redlands returns to Sierra Madre for a wonderful
holiday gift of “A Concert of Anthems, Readings, and Carols of the
Season.” Be prepared for a moving and unique presentation.
The event is on Saturday, December 21 at 8 pm at St. Rita Catholic
Church, 318 N. Baldwin (corner of Grandview), Sierra Madre. Parking
lot behind the church; enter from E. Grandview.
Dr. Jeffrey Rickard, Professor Emeritus of Sacred Music, directs a
70-voice choral ensemble with orchestral accompaniment. The festive
evening features a wide variety of music. Also on hand is a special appearance
by Ensemble XXI, a Redlands Camerata of over twenty voices.
This is the fifth visit to St. Rita by this very gifted and special group. Dr.
Rickard originally asked St. Rita to host this event because of the widely
acclaimed acoustics of the church building. He is a native of Sierra Madre
and thus presents this very special gift to his former hometown.
This event has previously been held on a Sunday afternoon. We hope the
Saturday evening time will allow more people to attend and enjoy this
wonderful gift and prelude to Christmas.
Free will offering. For further information, please call St. Rita Parish
Office, 626/355-1292.
