During the week of Sunday, October 11th, to Sunday, October 18th,
the Sierra Madre Police Department responded to approximately
291 calls for service.

Tuesday, October 13th

At 4:28 pm, Sierra Madre Police responded to the 700 Block of
West Sierra Madre Blvd regarding a residential burglary. Upon
arrival, Officers were informed by a neighbor that at around
3:15 pm she heard what she believed to be glass breaking in
the apartment next door, when she went to investigate she
discovered the sliding glass door had been shattered. The woman
thought the glass had been broken by a falling plant stand and
decided to go back to her apartment. At around 4:00 she heard
a noise of someone walking down the walkway between her and
the neighbor’s apartment, so she thought it was her neighbor
coming home from work and she went outside to inform her
about her glass door. When she went outside she saw a man at
the sidewalk and when she went to investigate her neighbors
patio she noticed the patio gate was open, the broken glass door
was open and there was a TV sitting on a patio chair. Officer
determined the suspect(s) entered the residence by throwing a
ceramic tile through the sliding glass door and ransacked several
rooms. This case has been forwarded to the Detective Bureau.

Wednesday, October 14th

At 5:52 pm, Sierra Madre Police responded to the station lobby
regarding a theft that occurred in the 300 block of West Sierra
Madre Blvd. The victim informed Officers that at around 1:30
am, she went to the local laundromat and placed a load of laundry
in the dryer, and while the clothes dried she went home to sleep.
She returned at around 6:00 am and discovered her clothes
had been removed from the dryer and when she inspected her
clothes she discovered various clothes articles were missing. The
victim informed officers that estimated loss was at over $1,000.
This case has been forwarded to the Detective Bureau.

GET YOUR HANDS DIRTY

AT THE COMMUNITY PLANTING DAY!

Sierra Madre, CA. - After months of landscape
demolition, grading and irrigation work, the
Community Planting Day is finally here! The Sierra
Madre Garden Club and City of Sierra Madre
are seeking eager volunteers to help replenish
the landscape outside City Hall with beautiful
drought-resistant plants. The event is part of a
joint community project aimed at saving water and
demonstrating the beauty and economic benefits of
native plant gardens!

Rain or shine, members of the community
will be gathering in downtown Sierra Madre on
November 7th to plant 200-300 plants on the
grounds surrounding City Hall and the Police
and Fire Station. The project was made possible
through generous grants and donations from the
community. As the City was unable to contribute
financial resources to the landscape project, the
City of Sierra Madre owes a special debt of gratitude
to those organizations and individuals who stepped
in to bring this project to life. Including, but not
limited to:

The Sierra Madre Garden Club

The Sierra Madre Community Foundation

FormLA Landscaping

LA County Board Supervisor Michael D.
Antonovich, Fifth District

San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District

The Sierra Madre Senior Community
Commission

The Neiby Family

Glenn & Amy Putnam

Richard Wilson

The Community Planting Day will take place
outside City Hall on November 7, 2015 from 9:00AM
– 12:00PM. Volunteers for the event are advised
to bring adequate gardening gear including: hats,
gloves, sunblock, as well as digging and trenching
shovels. The San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water
District will provide water and Girl Scout Troop
2991 will be on hand with refreshments.
