MONROVIA POLICE BLOTTER

NEW TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE
INTERSECTION OF PECK ROAD /
DUARTE ROAD IS SCHEDULED TO
BE TURNED ON THIS WEEK

During the past few weeks, we have been working in cooperation
with Southern California Edison to complete the electrical work
necessary to power on the new traffic signal that has been installed
at the intersection of Peck Road and Duarte Road. We are pleased to
report that all of the necessary electrical improvements have been
made, and that the new signal is scheduled to be turned on this week!

NEW SIGNS AT EL NIDO AVENUE
AND HILLCREST BOULEVARD

In response to concerns that were raised by neighbors living in
vicinity of the Hillcrest Boulevard / El Nido Avenue intersection, the
Traffic Safety Committee commissioned a study of El Nido Avenue
that was undertaken by the Monrovia Police Department. The review
determined that there was a sufficient amount of vehicular traffic on
the street moving at a speed that would warrant citations. It appears
that drivers have been using El Nido Avenue as an alternative route
to get around traffic congestion.

Given the results of this review, the Traffic Safety Committee voted
to authorize the installation of a “No Left Turn” sign and additional
street striping to help calm the traffic in the area to improve safety.
Given this approval, the City has installed the “No Left Turn” sign for
west bound traffic on Hillcrest Boulevard looking to turn south onto
El Nido Avenue and also put down additional street striping at the
location. We will continue to monitor the situation moving forward.

in a geyser erupting on Colorado Boulevard! During a scheduled
water shut down to perform routine repairs, in the 600 block of West
Colorado Boulevard near Mayflower Avenue, a twelve inch (12”)
water valve malfunctioned and created the scene, as captured in the
attached picture below!

have the opportunity to honor their loved one’s
service in the United States Armed Forces with
a Military Recognition banner placed along the
City’s main corridor, Huntington Dr.

City of Hope has partnered with the City of
Duarte on the banner program and has provided
funding to underwrite the first 30 Military
Recognition banners. These banners are still
available at no-cost to the first 30 military
personnel who complete a program application,
provide necessary verification documents and are
deemed eligible. Additional banners are available
for purchase or sponsorship at a cost of $155 each.

The program is designed to honor current
military personnel who reside in the City or
unincorporated county area of Duarte, or an
immediate family member of a Duarte resident.

THIS IS RED RIBBON WEEK

Monrovia Police Would Like to Remind Parents
to Talk to Your Kids about Drugs During the week
of October 23 through 31, the Monrovia Police
Department will celebrate Red Ribbon Week
2015. Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign to
raise awareness about substance abuse among our
youth and our communities.

In 1985, DEA Agent Enrique, “Kiki,” Camarena
was kidnapped and killed by a drug cartel
while investigating drug traffickers. To honor
his memory and to show support that we will
continue the fight against illegal drugs, Monrovia
Police Officers will wear red bracelets as part of
our uniform during Red Ribbon Week. Monrovia
schools have passed out red bracelets to children
to encourage kids to support the fight against
illegal drugs, alcohol, and tobacco use. Parents
are the most powerful influence in a child’s life
in preventing drug use, alcohol use, and other
risking behavior.

Talk to your children early about drugs before
they become involved, be involved in their lives,
keep them occupied with activities, spend time
with them, and know who their friends are. Drug
abuse can start at a very young age, so you need
to know who your children are with at all times.
Many teenagers are capable of making intelligent
decisions and steer clear of drugs; however, peer
pressure can cause even the most logical teenagers
to fall victim to drugs. As a parent, you need to
be involved in your child’s life and do what you
can to direct them away from harm. Let your child
know that you don’t want to see him or her hurt or
in trouble, and explain that he or she should not
use illicit drugs under any circumstances, and to
do so will result in serious consequences. One of
the hardest things as a parent is knowing how to
keep your child away from drugs and alcohol.
