Sierra Madre said a grateful, but sad goodbye to three outstnading men on Tuesday. Together, they served more than 90 years in to this community! At the city council meeting held earlier in the week, Mayor Robert Parkhurst and the Council, along with Assemblymember John Harabedian's representative praised their dedication and service to the community. Pictured above going clockwise are, Officer Ken Berry who is retiring after 31 years with SMPD. He is shown with Police Chief Gus Barrientos and Mayor Parkhurst in the background. Councilwoman Kristine Lowe congratulates SM Fire Department Engineer Ted Walters after 19 years of service. Councilwoman Lowe, served with Walters on the SM Fire Department for 9 years. On the right is SMPD Commander Mitch Thomas after 41 years with SMPD. Assemblyman John Harabedian, a Sierra Madre native could not attend, however he sent his representative, Adriane Perez to present Mitch with his Proclamation. Mayor Parkhurst also acknowledged that City Manager Jose Reynoso 's last day was on Tuesday. A formal recognition of his service to Sierra Madre will be held at the next council meeting, June 24th. MVNews/Photos by Dirk Bolle HOW LONG? NOT MUCH LONGER! This procession of trucks on their way to remove debris from the fire and rain that accumulated earlier this year has many residents wondering if the 'calvacade' will ever stop. Neighbors on major streets such as Michillinda, Lima, and Mountain Trail recognize that the trucks are helping to keep them safe by removing debris, will still be glad to know that they won't be traversing the streets forever. According to the Director of Public Works, Arnulfo Yanez, the final phase of their task is underway. The preparation of the area in anticipation of future rains has begun.
