 There are two remarkable gifts that the majority of 
us take for granted. When these gifts

are taken away or lost, the likelihood of them ever 
returning to their full greatness and potential is

slim. These two gifts are: OUR HEALTH and OUR 
FREEDOM.

 In this great country, we are blessed with our 
freedom – and, fortunately, most of us enjoy

good health. Yet, these gifts are not free. We must 
honor them, protect them and take personal

responsibility for them. If we do not, the cost can 
bankrupt us physically, financially and morally.

 The doctor’s responsibility is to assist you in 
keeping the high quality of your health

throughout your life. The government is to assist us 
in keeping and protecting the high quality of

our forefathers’ and foremothers’ vision of what our 
great nation is when it is free.

 Yet, most of us completely relinquish our greatest 
possessions to an outside source: the

doctor and the government. The result is 
dependency versus independence. Good examples 
of our dependency are the outrageous amount of drugs that we as individuals and as a 
nation take daily. At the same time, we run to the government to bail us out of our personal 
responsibilities and poor judgments. Without hesitation, we relinquish our individual 
responsibilities to our doctor and our government.

 In the case of our doctors, we become the masses versus unique individuals with specific

needs. With the government, the specific needs of a few become mandatory for all. Both the

doctor and the government begin to believe that they are our saviors, the gods in our lives. 
Their words become law and if you challenge their authority, fear and doubt of your survival 
become the surgical tools for the cure.

 “Pursuit of happiness,” was to inspire individual quests. The government is subliminally

suggesting that “entitlement to happiness,” is the American dream. This strips us of our 
preciousfreedom and uniqueness – as individuals and as a nation. 

 Celebrate our great gifts: Our health and being an American. Take individual

responsibility for your health, the health of your family and the health of our nation’s

Constitution. Your good health is your personal responsibility. The health of this great nation 
is everyone’s responsibility.

benefits and services they’ve earned. 
There’s so much to know...and so many 
changes from one year to the next. 
That’s why the nonprofit D-A-V and 
the Harley-Davidson Foundation have teamed up to offer 
help. The DAV Mobile Service Office will be at the Harley-
Davidson of Anaheim-Fullerton, 2635 West Orangethorpe 
Avenue, Fullerton, California, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 
on Sunday, July 11, 2010, to personally provide the best 
counseling and claim filing assistance available. This event 
is part of the nationwide Harley’s Heroes tour and is free to 
all veterans and members of their families.
