The City of Sierra Madre gives notice, pursuant to State of California law, that the Public Works Department is accepting formal, sealed bids for the modification of 
the entry ways of the Public Facilities located at 232 West Sierra Madre Boulevard (City Hall) and 242 West Sierra Madre Boulevard (Public Safety Building). 
This is a CDBG funded project.

Only those who attended the mandatory pre-bid meeting will be able to apply.

This is a federally assisted construction contract. Federal Labor Standards Provisions, including prevailing wage requirements of the Davis-Bacon and 
Related Acts will be enforced. In the event of a conflict between Federal and State wages rates, the higher of the two will prevail.

The Contractor’s duty to pay State prevailing wages can be found under Labor Code Section 1770 et. Seq. and Labor Code Sections 1775 and 1777.7 outline 
the penalties for failure to pay prevailing wages and employ apprentices including forfeitures and debarment.

Police Blotter

During the week of Sunday, July 17th, to Saturday July 
23rd the Sierra Madre Police Department responded to 
approximately 314 calls for service. See crimereports.com 
for updated information. 

Sunday, July 17th:

5:59 PM- Petty Theft, 200 blk. Foothill Ave. A Sierra 
Madre resident left her car unlocked in her driveway. 
On Saturday between 8:00 PM and Sunday 5:30 PM the 
unknown suspect entered the car and stole 12 music CDs 
in a case, $5.00 in U.S. coins, the car dash drawer, clear tub 
of peppermints, a small gold ID bracelet with “Melissa: 
engraved on the front, and a bag of newly purchased 
clothing. The total loss is valued at $895.00.

Tuesday, July 19th:

3:43 PM- Possession of Marijuana/ 1 oz or Less, 700 
blk. W. Montecito Ave. An officer conducting overnight 
parking enforcement came across a man in his car sleeping. 
Further investigations revealed that the Woodland Hills 
resident was in possession of marijuana, a marijuana 
smoking pipe and his license was suspended. The officer 
cited the man and released him in the field. 

10:55 PM- Under the Influence of Controlled Substance, 
Foothill Blvd and Michillinda Ave. An officer stopped 
a 27-year old Alhambra motorist for a Vehicle Code 
violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver 
and rear passenger were on active parole. A female in the 
rear passenger was arrested and booked for being under 
the influence of a controlled substance. She was later 
released on a citation. 

Thursday, July 21st:

7:09 AM- Unlawful Display Evidence of Registration, 
100 E. Montecito Ave. An officer stopped a 42-year old 
Duarte motorist for a Vehicle Code violation. Further 
investigation revealed that the man had an expired 
driver’s license, expired vehicle registration, and a stolen 
registration tab attached to the rear plate. The driver was 
arrested and later released on a written promise to appear 
in court. 

Saturday, July 23rd:

12:43 PM- Petty Theft, 300 Grove St. An unknown 
suspect(s) took the victim’s 4’ x 2’ clay maroon decorative 
vase, and a smaller clay maroon decorative vase, 18” x 12”.

Pasadena YMCA is assessing 
the need for afterschool 
programs. Currently, the 
YMCA operates afterschool 
programs for youth under 
10 and the City operates 
programs for those 11-17. 
The two organizations are 
evaluating a partnership 
in which the YMCA 
assumes the operation 
of teen programs as well. 
The information received

Sierra Madre Community 
& Personnel Services 
Department and YMCA 
develop youth programs 
that focus on academic 
achievement, enrichment 
specialty classes, and 
recreational development.

FREE PARENT/CHILD 
WORKSHOPS AT SIERRA 
MADRE LIBRARY

The Sierra Madre Public Library is again offering 
its popular five-week parenting workshop series in 
September. The workshops, for families with children 
ages three and younger, will cover general parenting; 
speech, language and reading; child development; 
nutrition; physical fitness and play for young children. 
The informal sessions will be interactive and will include 
toys, crafts, books and play, in addition to discussions of 
parenting issues and concerns. 

Presenting at the workshops on consecutive Tuesday 
mornings, beginning Sept. 6th through Oct. 4th, from 
10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., will be community partners with 
expertise in working with young children. Registration 
begins August 1st, and as seating is limited, reservations 
are required.

Sierra Madre Public Library is a Family Place library, 
a statewide initiative to promote the literacy, early 
childhood development, parent education and family 
support of young children. Modeled on a national 
Family Place project, the project is supported by the 
U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the 
provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, 
administered in California by the State Librarian.

MUSIC ENSEMBLE, TESSERAE, 
TO PERFORM A FREE CONCERT 
AT ASCENSION ON SUNDAY, 
AUGUST 7TH 

Formed in 2010, this LA based ensemble combines instruments 
from various Renaissance consort families (violin, viola, and 
brass) and explores some of the most beautiful repertoire of the 
time, from the intimate chamber music of the early 17th Century 
to the splendor of large scale Venetian polychoral music. 

The Ascension Concert will feature music by Gabrieli, Grillo, 
Croce and Guami on Sunday, August 7th at 4:00 pm at the 
Church of the Ascension, 25 East Laurel Avenue, Sierra Madre.

Lending a Paw Therapy 
Dogs will be the guest 
speaker at the Sierra 
Madre Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, August 2nd 
at noon.

 There will be 4 dogs and their trainers present 
to share information on how therapy dogs 
provide affection and comfort to people in 
hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, 
schools, people with learning difficulties, and 
for those in stressful situations. 

 Kiwanis will be collecting donations for 
Lending A Paw’s “Dog Food Bank” and is 
asking all attendees to bring, if possible, a can 
of dog food or doggie treats.

 The Program is free and will begin at 12:40 
p.m. Lunch is served at noon and reservations 
are necessary. Please call 626-355-7290 
by Monday, noon, if you would like to dine 
with us. The cost for lunch is $10.00

 The Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club meets at The 
Lodge (formerly the Masonic Temple) at 33 
E. Sierra Madre Blvd. Parking is in the rear 
of the building.
