Applications are in, time is ticking, and school is dragging on and on. Many of my fellow peers have begun to call it ‘quits’, and just sit back this semester, party and enjoy the last moments of high school bliss. But there is the ever present nagging and cautious voice in my head that tells me to just keep pushing, ‘one more semester’, and prepare myself for the best years of my life. Part of that pushing, however, is getting a job. It’s hard to consider binding myself to something that will restrict my ability to spend the ever dwindling time with my friends, but really, how bad can it be? At worst I will miss a Friday night here and there and maybe some Saturdays. On the upside, however, I will have money for when I enter into college. Money for food, trips, movies, clothes, etc. and I will also have experience for future jobs and something significant to add to my resume. I think that the hardest part of this struggle, aside from the time with friends, is grasping the reality that I am no longer a kid searching for Neverland. I am a high school senior, soon to be a registered voter, and someone who needs to begin fending for myself in the world before it consumes me before I even stand a chance. It’s time to realize that yes, high school may be ending, but reality is starting; it just all depends on which option I decide to choose. | ||||||||||||||||||
