FLOAT - continued from page 1

There was one unfortunate incident during the parade, however. 
Due to the parade itself exceeding broadcast television’s two hour 
window, the very last scheduled float in the parade from Western 
Asset, advanced itself in the lineup which caused the Sierra Madre 
entry and the Women’s Equestrian Group to miss most of the national 
broadcasts.

 

Incidentally, Paradiso Floats, a new float company that counts 
Charles Meier (who designed many of Sierra Madre’s award winners) 
among its principals, won the Directors’ Award for Outstanding 
Artistic Merit in Design and Floral Presentation for the 
City of San Gabriel’s Centennial entry, Celebrating our Journey.

SIERRA MADRE ROSE FLOAT 
DE-CONSTRUCTION

Yes, it may seem to soon but THE SIERRA MADRE ROSE 
FLOAT ASSOCIATION (SMRFA) is pleased to announce 
that this Saturday January 5th, 2013 and Sunday, January 
6th, 2013 we are having our annual DE-CONSTRUCTION 
weekend. 

Come join us in the disassembly of our beautiful creation. 
Both Saturday and Sunday starting at 9:00 AM. No special 
talents are required. Take this as an opportunity to become 
involved and understand what is involved building a Rose 
Parade float. This will take place at the SMRFA barn, 587 
East Sierra Madre Blvd. Yes this Saturday and Sunday.

Free on-air publicity for local events

 Sierra Madre’s EMERGENCY radio station is now accepting scripts 
for Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about community events. 
PSAs will be broadcast on the air at no charge. The station operates 
24/7 and can be heard at 1630 on the AM dial.

 Any local non-profit or non-commercial organization can have 
their event information broadcast to the public on Sierra Madre 
Community Information Radio. The station covers the city of Sierra 
Madre, plus surrounding areas of Pasadena, Arcadia, and Monrovia. 

Your event must:

• Benefit a non-commercial or non-profit entity
• Be open to the public
• Be of general interest to local citizens


Just 
write a Public Service Announcement that describes your event 
and e-mail it to radio@cityofsierramadre.com.
