Darin Dahms, in his solo performance, portrays the three famous men of 19th Century
America’s most important acting family: patriarch Junius Brutus Booth; Edwin Booth, perhaps the
greatest Shakespearean actor in American history; and his brother, John Wilkes Booth, best known
as “the most handsome man in America” until one fateful evening when he pulled out a derringer
and changed the history of the country forever.
After John Wilkes Booth assassinates President Lincoln, Edwin is forced off the stage for
a year. Will he ever be able to return to the stage? During this enforced hiatus, Edwin has time to
explore the question “What does it mean to be an actor/”
“The Player King” depicts Edwin Booth not as a wax historical figure, but as a fully dimensional
human being: Not just an actor, but an attentive son, loving husband and devoted father. He will be
called upon to rise from the depths of tragedy to pursue a great destiny.
Darin Dahms is highly regarded for his many stage roles in shows including “A House With
No Walls,” “A Tale Told by an Idiot,” and “Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me.” He is also a director,
producer and writer, winning awards for “Butterflies of Uganda,” which he co-wrote with friend
Sonke Weiss. Dahms received an MFA from the University of South Carolina and is a lifetime
member of the Actors Studio.
“The Player King” will be enjoyed by anyone fascinated by the history of the theatre, the
history of America, or the art of performance. See what the early audiences of “The Player King”
already know: It’s an extraordinary entertainment.

Jeff’s Book Picks By Jeff Brown
PRESENCE: THE ART OF PEACE AND HAPPINESS - VOLUME 1 BY
RUPERT SPIRA
Your self, aware presence, knows no resistance to any appearance and,
as such, is happiness itself; like the empty space of a room it cannot be
disturbed and is, therefore, peace itself; like this page, it is intimately
one with whatever appears on it and is thus love itself; and like water
that is not affected by the shape of a wave, it is pure freedom. Causeless
joy, imperturbable peace, love that knows no opposite and freedom at
the heart of all experience….this is your ever-present nature under all
circumstances.
PRESENCE: THE INTIMACY OF ALL EXPERIENCE - VOLUME 2 BY
RUPERT SPIRA
All that is known is experiencing and experiencing is not divided into one part (an inside self) that
experiences and another part (an outside object, other or world) that is experienced. Experiencing
is seamless and intimate, made of ‘knowing’ or Awareness alone. This intimacy, in which there is
no room for selves, objects or others, is love itself. It lies at its heart of all experience, completely
available under all circumstances.
THE TRANSPARENCY OF THINGS PAPERBACK BY RUPERT SPIRA
The purpose of Rupert's book is to look clearly and simply at the nature of experience, without any
attempt to change it. A series of contemplations lead us gently but directly to see that our essential
nature is neither a body nor a mind. It is the conscious Presence that is aware of this current
experience. As such it is nothing that can be experienced as an object and yet it is undeniably
present. As we take our stand knowingly as this conscious Presence that we always already are,
and reconsider the objects of the body, mind and world, we find that they do not simply appear to
this Presence, they appear within it. We are led to see that it is in fact this very Presence itself that
takes the shape of our experience from moment to moment while always remaining only itself. We
see that our experience is and has only ever been one seamless totality with no separate entities or
objects anywhere to be found.Rupert also has many YouTube videos and a website.
