AAUW GRANT RECIPIENT TO GIVE UPDATE ON ASSISTIVE 
TECHNOLOGY FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED

FORMER MAYOR BOB HARBICHT WILL BE THE GUEST SPEAKER 
AT THE ARCADIA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE’S GOVERNMENT 
AFFAIRS FORUM ON MAY 1. 

Mayor Harbicht has just concluded his fifth four-year term on the Arcadia City Council where he 
served as Mayor four times. He has had the unique distinction of serving as Mayor of two cities - 40 
years ago he was the Mayor of Duarte, the youngest Mayor in that city’s history. 

The public is invited on the first Thursday of each month at 8 a.m. to hear informative presentations in 
the Chamber’s conference room at 388 W. Huntington Drive sponsored by Foothill Credit Union. The 
Government Affairs Forum is led by Chairman Jack Orswell of Orswell & Kasman, Inc. Environmental 
Assessments & Consulting, and co-chairman Peter Ulrich, former Arcadia City Councilman. 
A discussion of pending legislation and other updates are provided at each Forum 
by representatives from City, County, and State government offices, the Metro 
Gold Line Foothill Extension and the Monrovia-Arcadia-Duarte Town Council.

Arcadia Police Blotter 


For the period of Sunday, April 6th, through Saturday, April 12th, the Police Department responded to1,098 calls for service of which 137 required formal investigations. The following is a summary reportof the major incidents handled by the Department during this period. 

Sunday, April 6:

1. Around 2:48 a.m., an officer made contact with a male subject standing next to his motorcycleon Foothill Boulevard at Baldwin Avenue. The officer discovered the subject was under the influenceof alcohol and unable to care for himself. The 32-year-old White male was arrested, transported to theArcadia City Jail for booking, and his motorycle was left legally parked.
2. At approximately 3:43 a.m., officers conducted an enforcement stop on a male subjectskateboarding on Foothill Boulevard at Tindalo Avenue. An investigation revealed the 21-year-oldWhite male subject was under the influence of a controlled substance. He was arrested and transportedto the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 
Monday, April 7:

3. Just after 6:30 a.m., an officer made consensual contact with a male subject in the area of 
Fifth Avenue and Huntington Drive. An investigation revealed the 41-year-old White male had two 
outstanding misdemeanor warrants and was in possession of methamphetamine. He was arrested 
and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 
4. Around 1:10 p.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter 
regarding an identity theft report. After the victim filed his federal tax retrun, he received notice 
from the IRS via email that his tax return claim was being rejected because someone else filed a 
claim under his name and social security number. He had no idea how his personal information was 
compromised. 
Tuesday, April 8:

5. Around 2:50 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of HuntingtonDrive and Santa Anita Avenue for a broken license plate lamp. The officer discovered the 25-year-oldWhite male driver was never issued a license and did not have insurance or registration. A vehiclesearch revealed he was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested,
transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking, and his vehicle was towed.
6. Just after 11:50 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a traffic accident at the intersection of SecondAvenue and Duarte Road. As Party-2 exited the driveway of Subway, 160 East Duarte Road, he collidedwith an approaching vehicle as he attempted to make a left turn onto northbound Second Avenue. Theofficer determined Party-2 was at fault since he failed to yield to oncoming traffic when entering theroadway. No injuries were reported. 
Wednesday, April 9:

7. At approximately 6:20 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 1000 block of CatalpaRoad regarding a burglary report. The victims discovered unknown suspect(s) forced entry through arear sliding glass door, ransacked multiple bedrooms, and fled with property including cash and a LuisVuitton purse. No evidence or witnesses were located.
8. Around 8:25 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Laurel Avenue regardingfive subjects trespassing on the property. An investigation revealed an 18-year-old White male subjectwas in possession of a controlled substance and two other subjects, an 18-year-old Hispanic female and19-year-old White female, had outstanding misdemeanor warrants. All three subjects were arrested andtransported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 
Thursday, April 10:

9. Shortly after 7:40 a.m., an officer was dispatched to Motel 6, 225 Colorado Place, in reference 
to a stolen vehicle report. The victim parked his 1995 Ford Ranger in the parking lot and discovered 
it missing a short time later. No one reported seeing or hearing anything suspicious. 
10. At about 11:41 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of West Lemon 
Avenue regarding a burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) forced entry through a sliding glass door 
and stole property from a secured safe. No evidence or witnesses were located. 
Friday, April 11:

11. At approximately 2:12 a.m., an officer made contact with a male subject standing in the 
parking lot of Station Bar, 1218 South Baldwin Avenue. The 41-year-old White male was under the 
influence of alcohol and unable to care for himself. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia 
City Jail for booking.
12. Around 9:17 a.m., an officer responded to a residence under construction in the 000 block of 
East Arthur Avenue regarding a burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) forced entry through a drywall 
and stole a refrigerator and several power tools. An investigation revealed the contractor observed a 
van with two Hispanic male occupants parked in front of the residence one day prior. Although he 
thought the subjects looked suspicious, he did not contact police. 
3Saturday, April 12:

13. Just after 2:40 a.m., an officer responded to the United States Post Office, 41 Wheeler Avenue, 
regarding two subjects arguing in the parking lot. An investigation revealed a male suspect slammed 
his friend into a light pole, causing a significant laceration to her head. The 30-year-old Hispanic male 
was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 
The victim refused medical treatment and fled the scene. 
14. At about 12:15 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Macy’s at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 
South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft report. A 40-year-old Chinese female suspect concealed 
merchandise inside her purse and exited the store without making payment. She was cited for Petty 
Theft and released without incident. 
ARCADIA POLICE SEEK THE PUBLIC’S 
ASSISTANCE

 On Wednesday April 16, 2014, at about 9:13 PM, Arcadia Police Officers and Arcadia Fire Paramedics 
responded to an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Gate 1 of the Westfield Santa Anita 
Mall and Huntington Drive. Two adult men were treated and transported to Huntington Memorial 
Hospital with serious injuries. Unfortunately, a 78-year-old Arcadia man, died at the hospital as a 
result of injuries sustained in the collision. The second man is a 76-year-old Arcadia resident who 
sustained moderate injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening at this time. 
Preliminary investigation revealed that two adult men were walking from the northwest corner of 
the intersection in a southeast direction across Westbound Huntington Drive, well outside of the 
designated north/south crosswalk on the east side of the intersection. The intersection is normally 
controlled by a lighted traffic signal, but the traffic signal was not working at the time of this collision 
due to a power outage affecting the area. 
The driver of the vehicle, who is a 19-year-old Arcadia man, stopped at the scene of the collision. The 
driver is not being held at this time. 
The cause of the collision is under investigation by the Arcadia Police Department Major Accident 
Investigation Team. Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact the Arcadia
