WALKING SIERRA MADRE……The Social Side By Deanne Davis

This past week has been kind of like
Maurice Sendak’s “Where The Wild
Things Are.” Seriously! First we had
an election, which generated some
wild behavior, but ended well as we
now have three splendid new City
Council Representatives: Rachelle
Arizmendi, Denise Delmar, and
Gene Goss. Congratulations! We
are confident you will do your best to
represent the citizens of Sierra Madre
and keep us all so happy that we’ll echo
Max from Wild Things…

“Oh, please don’t go—we’ll eat you
up—we love you so!”

Speaking of eating… SUBWAY IS
OPEN!! AND, more good food
news: The beer is in at Vicious Dogs
2! They’ve got five kinds including
Heineken, Sierra Nevada, Blue Moon
and if you really want a glass of wine,
you can bring in your own bottle and
for a mere .50 corkage fee, enjoy a
glass of your favorite Chardonnay or
Merlot with your slaw dog, or your
Papi El Guapo!

Back to the wild things… saw this
really great sign somewhere in town,
“The Deer Deli Is Closed!” And the
resident has enclosed all their roses
in green garden mesh to protect their
blooms from our local Wild Things.

My walking buddy, the trail hiking
John, and I saw several deer last week,
dining and relaxing in the shade just
the other side of Santa Anita. They
seem to have deserted their usual
haunts in the canyon for the moment
but they’ll be back!

More wild things… our Mt. Wilson
Trail Race winner, Sharon Pevsner,
posted on Facebook: “So, a friend and I
decided to head up into the mountains
to play today. A deer ran right in front
of us! He was a beauty. We continued
on our journey and stopped to listen to
a new safety device I purchased when

Inside this week:

we heard a distinct and very loud
growl that sounded like it was coming
from above us. It was the “hair raising”
on the arms moment when we decided
that we needed to back away and get
around a corner. We then heard the
animal dash down the mountain cross
the trail and go over the other side.
After we managed to put our hearts
back in our chests, we run into a baby
bear...minus its mother! The only thing
missing today was a crazy man and a
rattlesnake!”

Sharon will be running in the Boston
Marathon this coming Monday, April
21st, Patriot’s Day, where, hopefully,
she won’t encounter anything wilder
than the 26,000+ runners who will
be competing. I suspect there will
be more runners than ever before as
Americans will not let terrorists stop
us.

Happy Easter! Rejoice! He is risen!
