Sierra Madre’s EMERGENCY radio station is now accepting scripts 
for Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about community events. 
PSAs will be broadcast on the air at no charge. The station operates 
24/7 and can be heard at 1630 on the AM dial. 
Any local non-profit or non-commercial organization can have 
their event information broadcast to the public on Sierra Madre 
Community Information Radio. The station covers the city of Sierra 
Madre, plus surrounding areas of Pasadena, Arcadia, and Monrovia. 
Your event must:

Benefit a non-commercial or non-profit entity 
• 
Be open to the public 
• 
Be of general interest to local citizens 
Just write a Public Service Announcement that describes your event

COMMUNITY YARD SALE IN 
SIERRA MADRE 
The City of Sierra Madre Senior Community Commission is 
hosting the 4th Annual Community Yard Sale on Saturday, 
June 7, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. located in the 
Sierra Vista Park (611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd). Community 
organizations and members are invited to come together 
with their neighbors to participate in a community yard 
sale. Participants have the opportunity to clean out their 
garages, attics, storage sheds and closets without sending 
those items to landfill. 
The fee for a selling space is $30.00 and a yard sale 
permit does not need to be purchased; proceeds willbenefit senior programs and activities. Alternatively, you 
may donate items to the Senior Community Commission 
booth to be sold on the Commission’s behalf. If you would 
like to participate in the Community Yard Sale, you must 
register in person at the Community Services Office, 
611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. The Community Yard Sale is 
expanding for 2014 and will encompass the west parking 
lot and basketball court in Sierra Vista Oark. The deadline 
to register is Thursday, May 29 or until spaces are filled. 
Spots are filled on a first come, first serve basis. 
Participants must provide their own tables, chairs, canopies 
(10’x10’ maximum) and cash boxes if needed. No electricitywill be provided. Live animals, large canopies, and selling 
of food or drinks are prohibited. All business must be 
conducted within your space. Event may be cancelled due 
to inclement weather. 
A limited number of spaces are available. Registration will 
open Wednesday, April 16th. For more information please

she had won a prize drawing in the value of 2.5 million dollars 
and a car. She was instructed to wire a total value of $150 to an 
account to serve as payment for processing fees. The following 
day, the victim contacted the agency and was informed that 
she had not been selected for any prize and they do not inform 
winners over the phone. The victim then contacted the business 
used to wire the money and was informed her money had been 
picked up. This case has been forwarded to the Detectives Bureau. 

Friday May 23rd, 2014At 3:09 pm, Sierra Madre Police responded to North Baldwin 
Avenue regarding a vandalism report. Upon arrival, officers were 
shown surveillance video of two male suspects in a black vehicle 
tampering with a gas pump. The passenger is described as a male 
Hispanic approximately 6’ feet tall and weighing 260lbs wearing 
a white baseball cap, white jacket, and dark pants. The suspect 
tampered with one of the pumps leading the owner to believe a 
credit card skimmer was installed. This case has been forwarded 
to the Detectives Bureau. 

Saturday May 24th, 2014At 11:37 pm, Sierra Madre Police performed a traffic stop due to a 
failure to have their headlights on. Upon making contact with the 
driver, officers noticed that the suspect seemed to be intoxicated 
and performed a field sobriety test. With further investigation 
officers determined the suspect was driving under the influence 
of alcohol with two young children in the vehicle. The suspect 
was arrested and sited for Child Endangerment, DUI, Suspended/
Revoked License, and Possession of Marijuana.

The Sierra Madre City Council encourages citizen participation in its decision-making process through the use of citizen commissions. Currently, 
there are five citizen commissions established by the Council to advise and assist them in dealing with specific problems.

 Applications to serve on a commission may be obtained at City Hall or the City website at http://cityofsierramadre.com/commissions-boardscommittees. 
Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled; however, it is recommended that applications for appointment for the 
beginning of the 2014-2015 fiscal year be submitted by Friday, May 23, 2014 to the City Manager’s Office. There are currently vacancies on the 
following commissions: 

COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION 
The Community Services Commission is responsible for overseeing the City’s recreation and community services programs. The Commission 
oversees the general use of park facilities and matters relating to the community’s arts and recreational service needs. The Commission provides 
information and recommendations to the City Council in these areas. Meets the 3rd Monday at 6:30 pm, in the City Hall Council Chambers 

LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES 
The responsibilities of the Library Board include the following: establishing Library policies and programs to ensure that quality programs are 
provided to the community, recommending an annual budget to the City Council for approval, and ensuring that efficient and effective services 
are provided at the Library. Meets the 4th Wednesday at 7:00 pm, in the City Hall Council Chambers 

PLANNING COMMISSION 
The responsibilities of the Planning Commission fall into two broad categories: consideration of current land-use (i.e. applications for General 
Plan amendments, zone changes, specific plans, conditional use permits, tract maps, variances, and appeals of staff land-use decisions); and 
advising the City Council on City initiated amendments to the City’s General Plan. Meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday at 7:00 pm, in the City Hall 
Council Chambers 

The advisory bodies study a variety of topics in detail. After gathering all pertinent information, hearing arguments, and weighing values, they 
recommend to the Council what they consider the best action to take. In certain situations, commissions are empowered to make specific 
decisions, subject to appeal to the Council. Public notices on all commissions are prepared in compliance of the Maddy Act.
