Schiff UrgesCongressto Pass Gun
Safety Laws
Adam Schiff, a former federal
prosecutor, released the
following statement Tuesday
calling on Congress to move on
responsible and commonsense
gun safety laws in the wake of
yet another mass shooting in
Isla Vista, California:
“The shooting at Isla Vista is
another heartbreaking tragedy,
and another example of the
senseless gun violence affecting
our communities. What will
it take to get the Congress
moving on responsible gun
safety laws? What will it take to
keep guns out of the hands of
seriously mentally ill people?
How many more Sandy
Hooks, Auroras, Stocktons,
Columbines, Virginia Techs,
and Isla Vistas must we have?
How many more cities and
schools will have names that
become synonymous with gun
violence? Where does it end?
“With each of these tragedies,
the fabric of our country is
torn a bit more. Are we ready
to say enough is enough? Will
our Congress listen if we do?”

Public Meetings on RoseBowl Music Festival
By Dean Lee and staff
reports
The city is set to hold two
scoping meetings June 12
and June 14, to provide
comments regarding a Draft
Environmental Impact
Report (EIR) being prepared
for a proposed three-day
Rose Bowl Music Festival
next year.
Officials said they are asking
the public for information
they believe should be
addressed in the EIR.
The meetings will be held
at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June
12, and 10 a.m., Saturday
June 14. Both meetings will
be held at the Rose Bowl
Stadium, Loge Lounge, Level
D, Terry Donahue Pavilion.
Parking will be on the
concourse by Gate F, enter at
Gate C.
The meetings are organized
by the City’s Planning and
Community Development
Department. Officials said it
is not necessary to attend both
meetings. Staff will provide
the same information at both
meetings they said.
The Rose Bowl Operating
Company is exploring the
potential of hosting an
annual musical festival,
which could begin as early
as June 2015. The potential
event is still in the conceptual
phase and public comments
are requested as part of
the environmental review
process.
If approved, the project
is an amendment to the
Arroyo Seco Public Lands
Ordinance. The changes
proposed at the Brookside
Golf Course are consistent
with ongoing historical use
of the golf course during
displacement (large) events
and would allow the Rose
Bowl Operating Company
to potentially host, among
other events, a three-day
music festival in the Arroyo
Seco. The project would
provide the flexibility for the
City to choose either nine
new additional events, or 13
NFL events.
