FOOTHILL CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY UPDATE

ANDRES P. CHAVEZ, GRANDSON OF 

CESAR CHAVEZ TO SPEAK MARCH 28TH 

AT WESTMINSTER GARDENS 


DUARTE, CA, February 25, 2015 – Andres P. 
Chavez, grandson of Cesar Chavez and Curriculum 
Specialist at the Cesar Chavez Foundation will 
address volunteers at the upcoming Cesar Chavez 
Service Project on March 28, 2015 at Westminster 
Gardens. Andres Chavez writes curriculum for Si 
Se Puede Learning Centers, after-school academic 
tutoring and character education programs for 
children located in most of the foundation’s 42 
affordable housing communities in four states.

 The annual Cesar Chavez volunteer Project, 
coordinated by Duarte’s Promise: The Alliance for 
Youth and Westminster Gardens, will kickoff at 
8:30 a.m. on the 32-acre campus of Westminster 
Gardens located at 1420 Santo Domingo in the 
City of Duarte. A full pancake breakfast and 
lunch provided by Westminster Gardens will 
keep volunteers well fed as they complete a 
beautification project on the campus. 

 The event is one of a number of volunteer projects 
coordinated annually by Duarte’s Promise – the 
Alliance for Youth throughout the community.

Grand Theft Auto

February 24 at 2:58 a.m., and officer responded to 
the 1500 block of Alamitas regarding the report of a 
stolen vehicle. The victim parked his vehicle at about 
12:30 a.m. on the street and left his vehicle unlocked. 
He noticed his vehicle missing at 2:58 a.m. and called 
police. The vehicle taken is a tan, 1996 Honda Accord. 
The investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft of a Motorcycle

February 25 at 8:44 p.m., a motorcycle was reported 
stolen in the 100 block of Fig. The motorcycle is a blue, 
2009 Harley Davidson Street Glide. The motorcycle 
was last seen in front of the residence. The victim 
accounted for all sets of keys. The investigation is 
continuing.

Domestic Violence – Suspect Arrested

February 25 at 10:47 p.m., an officer was dispatched 
to a residence in the 300 block of East Palm regarding 
a domestic disturbance. A male and female subject 
who have been in a dating relationship and have lived 
together for 8 years became involved in an argument. 
During the argument, the male subject threw the 
female to the ground and punched her in the back of 
the head, causing a minor injury. The male suspect 
was arrested for domestic violence and served with a 
temporary restraining order.

OFF-SITE (Streets, Medians, Sidewalks and Freeway 
Underpass) WORK

WHEN: March 2 to March 6, 2015

WHERE: Myrtle Avenue (between Duarte Road 
and Evergreen Avenue)

WHAT: Crews will installing the planter boxes, 
irrigation, and street lighting. Traffic lanes will be 
impacted periodically, but extended lane closures 
will not be necessary. Pedestrian traffic will be 
routed to the east side of Myrtle Ave. Please observe 
street delineations and traffic signs for your safety.

WHERE: Duarte Road (between California Avenue 
and Magnolia Avenue)

WHAT: Crews will be installing curb, planters and 
irrigation on the south side of Duarte Rd. Traffic 
lanes will be impacted periodically, but extended 
lane closures will not be necessary from Myrtle Ave 
to Magnolia Ave. Street parking will not be available. 
Please observe street delineations and traffic signs 
for your safety.

WHERE: Pomona Avenue (between Myrtle Avenue 
and Magnolia Avenue)

WHAT: Crews will be installing irrigation and 
light foundations on the south side of Pomona Ave. 
Pedestrian traffic will be routed to the north side of 
Pomona Ave. Traffic lanes will be impacted, but lane 
closures are not expected. Street parking will not 
be available. Please observe street delineations and 
traffic signs for your safety.

WHERE: Magnolia Avenue (between Evergreen 
Avenue and railroad crossing)

WHAT: Crews will be constructing planters on the 
east side of Magnolia Ave. Lane closures are not 
expected this week, but will be necessary within 
the next couple of weeks. Pedestrian traffic will 
be routed to the west side of Magnolia Ave. Traffic 
lanes will be impacted, but lane closures are not 
expected. Street parking will not be available. 
Please observe street delineations and traffic signs 
for your safety.

WHERE: Primrose Avenue (south of Evergreen 
Avenue)

WHAT: Crews will be installing irrigation and 
light foundations on the west side of Primrose Ave. 
Pedestrian traffic will be routed to the east side of 
the Primrose, south of Pomona Ave. Traffic lanes 
will be impacted, but all lanes will remain open. 
Street parking will not be available. Please observe 
street delineations and traffic signs for your safety.

WHERE: California Avenue (between Duarte Road 
and Evergreen Avenue)

WHAT: Crews will be constructing sidewalk on the 
west side of California Ave. Pedestrian traffic will be 
routed to the east side of California Ave. Traffic lanes 
will be impacted periodically. Street parking will 
not be available. Please observe street delineations 
and traffic signs for your safety.

ON-SITE (Station Square Plaza, Park and 
Promenade) WORK

WHEN: March 2 to March 6, 2015

WHERE: Monrovia Park & Ride Lot

WHAT: The contractor will be grading the site and 
installing the remaining underground utilities. 
There are alternate parking spaces available at 123 
W. Pomona Ave, Monrovia - northwest of the Park 
and Ride lot (see aerial map below). Signs showing 
the direction of the alternate parking are posted on 
site. Parking is now available on the west side of the 
building, in addition to the east and north sides of 
the building. Overnight parking is not allowed. 


VIRTUAL TREK THROUGH THE TOMBSTONES

OF LIVE OAK CEMETERY

Historian Steve Baker will lead a virtual tour through Duarte’s history as he tells the tales of those pioneer families 
buried at the Live Oak Cemetery. Their stories are engaging! This power point program will be presented at the 
Duarte Historical Museum, 777 Encanto Parkway, Duarte, on March 7 at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
