THE REEL DEAL: by Ben Show
EX MACHINA REVIEW
Throughout the past year, there have been a slew of many moviesfocused on AI’s. From ‘Transcendence’, to ‘Chappie’, to ‘Avengers:
Age of Ultron’, there have been too many to count; however, whatmakes ‘Ex Machina’ so different and original from all the others?

Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson) surprisingly wins a competition heentered to go visit the CEO of his company, Nathan (Oscar Isaac).
He arrives at Nathan’s house and so discovers that the technologicalgenius has been experimenting with AI and his, as well as the AI’s,
intentions are soon revealed.

‘Ex Machina’ finds its strength and individuality from the script’sability to develop interesting, fully fleshed out characters as well ascreating new and creative plot twists to keep the movie engaging. ‘ExMachina’ is an original sci-fi movie that deserves to be seen.

ARCADIA-- The Arcadia HighSchool Quiz Bowl team won the

tenth annual competition, with
Arcadia High School competing inall nine previous tournaments. TheApaches’ best showing prior to thisyear was when they placed 5th in2014.

Arcadia went through the prelims onSaturday with a record of 8-2 and wasseeded seventh going into Sunday’splayoffs. At the end of the 22ndround (the 15th match for AHS),
Arcadia was one of the last two teams
in the winners bracket. They lost aclose match (375-360) to defendingnational champions Liberal Arts
and Science Academy from Austin,
Texas. They then went into the losers
bracket and after three matches against teams that were all rankedin the top ten in the country, found themselves again matched upagainst the Liberal Arts and Science Academy for the title. In thefinal match, after five questions, Arcadia was down140-15. The Apaches kept their composure and rallied back tocatch up at question sixteen, and then put away the defendingchamps for good, pulling away to a convincing 410-285 win.

The championship team is comprised of four seniors: Kevin Wang,
Justin Nghiem, Yuqiao Zhao, and Andrew Leung, and they arecoached by Arcadia High School English/Language Arts teacherChristopher Schultz.

popular culture.
The matches feature a blend of individual competition and teamcollaboration.
