THE KENSINGTON’S COMING

OUT PARTY

Commerce

 Ash Wednesday also happened
to be a day to celebrate the first
anniversary of The Kensington
Sierra Madre senior and assisted
living facility.

In its first year the elegant center
at 245 Sierra Madre Blvd has filled
the multi-story residence to near-
capacity with 100 clients.

Joyous residents and staff alike gathered together with members of three Chambers of Commerce —
Arcadia, Pasadena and Sierra Madre — to cut the ribbon, with their first official resident taking control of
the giant Arcadia Chamber scissors. Staff lined the staircase and, once the ribbon was cut, cheers erupted
and the party continued.

While the Kensington might have the stylish appeal of an upscale hotel, the loving care provided by the
staff was evident in all the happy faces.

Guests enjoyed a wide array of food, including shrimp cocktail, beef carpaccio on cucumber slices and
a cheese platter. A huge sheet cake with The Kensington’s signature K was the subject of many a photo,
along with an ice sculpture in the bar area. A live band consisting of a piano, bass and tenor saxophone,
had guests clapping and dancing.

Director of Community Outreach, Steve Sciurba led the festivities and spoke highly of the support of
the city of Sierra Madre, while Julie Lacey, Director of Nursing, praised her staff, who gave her a rock star
ovation and presented her with a signed puzzle of a photo of The Kensington itself. Always at their feet,
Lacey’s therapy dog called Forest made sure everyone was keeping on track and giving him enough tasty
snacks.

Many representatives of neighboring cities joined in the festivities. Arcadia Chamber CEO Scott Hettrick
noted the impressive artwork and art studio, suggesting that they start their own Kensington Collection.
He and Arcadia Chamber President-Elect Vicki Knight of Century Rooter Service & Plumbing presented
Kensington officials with a
certificate of recognition and
a new member plaque. John
Capoccia, Mayor of Sierra
Madre, Pasadena Chamber
President Paul Little, and Ed
Chen, President of the Sierra
Madre Chamber also made
presentations.

 The Kensington boasts not
only a beautiful location near
downtown Sierra Madre, but
it also has a spacious patio,
movie room and an art studio
overlooking the bustling
downtown area. They also
allow family and friends of
the residents to come dine
with their loved ones for free,
a perk shared by few other
senior living residences. The
Kensington is designed to
be home for seniors who
are looking for independent
living, assisted living and
memory care services. The
staff provides care beyond
what a traditional assisted
living community can deliver.
