Off a small road near Cable Airport sits a warehouse, where 10 engineers build the most amazing privately owned submersibles in the industry, let alone the world. Granted if you have a few million lying around you too can be the proud owner of one of these beauties, I foresee a lot of fundraising for our scouts. President and owner Charles Kohnen of SEAmagine gave our Scouts a behind the scenes tour and presentation of the operation that has transformed the world of undersea exploration. Our Scouts were treated to a demonstration of the submersibles robotic arms, an up-close and personal view of two submersibles on display in the warehouse and an in-depth presentation and videos of how they work. Our Scouts learned about the long history of producing the personal submarines and private submersibles. The company’s private submersibles have performed thousands of dives around the world from many types of superyachts and in a wide range of sea conditions. These personal submarines and private submersibles have been used in scientific, commercial, and superyachts and have also been used in National Geographic, BBC, and other numerous film projects. SEAmagine has a perfect safety record and a solid track record in reliability and practicality in both the professional and superyachts markets. Many of Pack 66 Cub Scouts are working on their STEM NOVA awards and this adventure will almost complete Cub Scout Bear Max Rily’s requirements. The Scouts were engaged and asking many questions about depth, pressure, breathing, time under water, and types of submersibles as well as the difference between a submarine and a submersible. The answer given by Mr. Kohnen will never be forgotten…a submarine has a toilet and a submersible does not. If you would like your children, boys and girls to have adventures like this please contact Monrovia Pack 66 ages 5-10 and Troop 66 ages 11-18 at monroviatroop66@gmail.com or call Mr. Peters at 626-485-1032 for more questions. Our meetings are on Mondays from 7-8:30pm at Monrovia Vineyard Church 1307 S. Myrtle Ave., Monrovia. MONROVIA SCOUTS DIVE INTO SUBMERSIBLES Pasadena, CA -- La Salle High School has initiated a search for a new head football coach. Russ Gordon has left La Salle in order to take a position as Head of Football Operations at the collegiate level. Gordon, who was hired in 2012, was an instant success as the Lancers won the first 10 regular season games with him as the head coach after taking over a team that went a combined 1-19 in 2010 and 2011. Gordon’s program won 36 games in his tenure, including the school’s first playoff win in 10 years. “Although we are disappointed to lose Coach Gordon, we know this change is a great opportunity for him and his family, “ said La Salle’s President, Dr. Richard Gray. “Finding the next great coach who will lead La Salle into a new era of Lancer Football is our priority and we are excited to move forward in that process,” commented Courtney Kassakhian, Principal. La Salle will be accepting applications for the Lancers Head Football Coach beginning today. Please contact La Salle’s Athletic Director, Anthony Harris, at aharris@lasallehs.org for details.
