WEEKLY ACTIVITY REPORT
July 31 – August 6, 2022
The following represents a summary report of some of the major incidents handled by the Sierra
Madre Police Department during this period. This list is not intended to be considered exclusive or
all-inclusive.
Wednesday, August 3Auto BurglaryOfficers responded to the area of Mt Wilson Trail and Mira Monte Ave for reports of an auto burglary.
The reporting party stated that unknown suspect(s) smashed the rear driver side window
of their vehicle and removed property from inside. The Detectives' Bureau is following up on this
incident.
The Sierra Madre Police Department would like to remind you to always keep valuables hidden
or stored away when parking in a public place.
NATIONAL 988 SUICIDE & CRISIS LIFELINE
Nationwide, people who are experiencing a mental health crisis and in need of immediate help
are now able to dial or text 988 and receive assistance through the new Suicide and Crisis Lifeline
number.
A new 988 Call Center, operated by Didi Hirsch, is now taking calls coming into the 988 hotline
in Los Angeles County. Trained operators are available to triage callers to receive the appropriate
services, including suicide crisis counseling over the phone and mental health de-escalation
counseling over the phone. In addition, they will also triage callers to determine when dispatching
a mobile crisis team is appropriate and, in rare cases, connection to law enforcement when safety
is of concern.
ARCADIA POLICE BLOTTER
For the period of Sunday, July 31st through Saturday, August 6th, the
Police Department responded to 891 calls for service, of which 115
required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of
some of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, July 31:
1. At 12:48 p.m., an officer responded to Rod’s Grill, located at 41 West Huntington
Drive, regarding a suspect exhibiting signs of public intoxication. Upon contacting the
suspect, the 61-year-old female from La Verne provided a false name to hide the fact that
she had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants. She was arrested and transported to the
Arcadia City Jail for booking.
2. At 9:14 p.m., an officer responded to Westfield Santa Anita Mall, located at 400
South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a robbery that had just occurred. An investigation revealed
the victim was standing just outside of the Nordstrom exit when the suspect exited
his parked vehicle and forcibly stole her purse. The victim fell to the ground during the
robbery. The suspect, described as a Black male in his 20’s, fled in a black BMW sedan. The
victim refused medical attention.
Monday, August 1:
3. At 8:22 a.m., an officer responded to 7-Eleven, located at 200 East Live Oak Avenue,
regarding a theft incident. The officer determined the suspect stole nearly $70.00 worth of
merchandise and grew angry when the clerk confronted him. The suspect, 26-year-old
male from Los Angeles was arrested in the field.
4. At 3:50 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Sunset Boulevard
regarding a report of shots fired. The officers discovered the suspect, a neighbor, fired
multiple rounds of ammunition into neighboring apartments in response to an ongoing
dispute. The 39-year-old female from Arcadia was arrested and transported to the Arcadia
City Jail for booking.
Tuesday, August 2:
5. At 7:08 a.m., an officer responded to Santa Anita Cleaners, located at 1001 North
Santa Anita Avenue, regarding a commercial burglary report. An investigation revealed
unknown suspect(s) removed a glass window and ransacked the business. The suspect(s)
fled with the camera system, a tablet, and cash.
Wednesday, August 3:
6. At 12:37 a.m., officers responded to Hilton Garden Inn, located at 199 North Second
Avenue, regarding a robbery investigation. It was determined the suspects, casual acquaintances
of the victim, stole her cash and sunglasses while she left them unattended
in her hotel room. Both suspects are described as Black males between the ages of 18 and
25-years-old.
7. At 7:04 a.m., an officer responded a residence in the 00 block of West Naomi Avenue
regarding a mail theft report. The victim stated the suspect removed a rear plate to
the mail box, looked through his mail, and discarded it on the ground before returning
to his black 4-door sedan and driving away. The investigation is pending a review of the
surveillance footage.
8. At 6:24 p.m., officer responded to Westfield Santa Anita Mall, located at 400 South
Baldwin Avenue, regarding a stolen trailer in the area. The driver, a 43-year-old male from
Oakland, was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Thursday, August 4:
9. At 2:47 a.m., an officer responded to the 00 block of East Huntington Drive regarding
a City of Arcadia municipal code violation. The code prohibits subjects from camping
on city benches, and after multiple warnings, the suspect, a 44-year-old male from Temple
City, was issued a citation.
10. At 8:09 a.m., an officer responded to the 700 block of Fairview Avenue regarding
a stolen vehicle in the area. Upon contacting the driver, the officer determined the
32-year-old male from South Gate, was in possession of a stolen vehicle. A records check
also revealed he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The suspect was arrested and
transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
11. At 1:59 p.m., an officer responded to Macy’s, located at 400 South Baldwin Avenue,
regarding a grand theft incident. An investigation revealed the suspect was in possession of
approximately $1,500.00 worth of stolen merchandise. The 60-year-old male from Arcadia
was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
12. At 5:34 p.m., an officer responded to Angeles National Forest Headquarters, located
at 701 North Santa Anita Avenue, regarding a grand theft report. The officer discovered
someone had stolen nearly $27,000 worth of handheld radios from the facility. The
incident happened sometime between July 26th and August 1st.
Saturday, August 6:
13. At 6:52 p.m., an officer responded to 7-Eleven, located at 102 East Huntington
Drive, regarding a trespassing report. The officer determined the suspect had been served
a trespass authorization form but refused to leave the area. While attempting to contact the
suspect, he ran and resisted arrest. During a search incident to an arrest, the officer located
methamphetamine and a smoking pipe. The 31-year-old male from Temple City was arrested
and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
14. At 10:17 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 400 block of Workman
Avenue regarding a burglary report. The victim witnessed someone burglarizing the home
via surveillance footage. Additional officers responded and located the suspect in an area
search. The 51-year-old male from El Monte was arrested and transported to the Arcadia
City Jail for booking. A records check revealed he also had two outstanding misdemeanor
warrants and was in possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia.
